"From Worst 2 First"
“I don't know if I every thought this would actually happen. I know I wanted it to, but I think rap really was just something for me to believe in and take my focus off everything negative in my life.”
Not exactly the sentiment expressed by most of today's brash, arrogant crop of MC's, but then again the story of Atlanta lyricist $hamrock is anything but ordinary. After a scorching run through VH1's White Rapper Show competition in early 2007, $ham has since been featured in People Magazine and Marc Ecko's Complex Magazine, in addition to appearing on Nick Cannon's Wild N Out and Wilmer Valderrama's Yo Mama.
Between sweet sixteen's and performance dates across the country, $ham also found time to develop close relationships with recognizable brands such as The Atlanta Braves and Lotek Brand Shoe Co. Of course all these major moves come second to $hamrock who is most proud of his musical work with such artists and producers as Bohagon, Bonecrusher , B.O.B. , Trillville, P$C, $parkdawg of Green City, Jackie Chain, SJ Rose, C-Note, Block Ent.'s Luney Tunez N Yo Area, and Ribah On The Beat.
In the summer of 2008, G.E. Entertainment released $ham's debut EP Live From Decatur on iTunes and amazon.com to the delight of his adoring fanbase. This six-song set included “Entourage”, a club banger that received airplay on Atlanta radio stations 95.5 The Beat and WVEE V-103. “Entourage” also hit markets across the nation including KNDA 102.9 Da Bomb (Corpus Christi, TX), KIBT 96.1 The Beat (Colorado Springs, CO), XHTO 104.3 Hit-FM (El Paso, TX), KPRR Power 102 (El Paso, TX), KBDS 103.9 FM (Bakersfield, CA), WBHJ 95.7 Jamz (Birmingham, AL), and KUUU U92 (Salt Lake City, UT).
For the 2008 college football season, $ham could be found cranking club shows and tailgate parties in honor of his alma mater, the University of Georgia. His ode to UGA football "Bulldawg Bounce 08" has become a cult-classic to the Bulldawg Nation and garnered attention from ESPN.
More recently in early 2009, $hamrock has fed the streets with consistently delicious mixtapes including DJ Teknikz presents “Ego Flip's White Trapper Show” and DJ Burn One presents “$hamrock & Jackie Chain: Inter$tate Muzik”. In an effort to reach his international following, $ham even linked up with the German mixtape master DJ Noize to release “Independently Major”, perhaps his strongest street release to date.
The buzz $ham continues to generate has kept him performing in and out of state despite the current economic climate. This works out perfectly as G.E.Entertainment prepares to release his debut LP, Worst 2 First. For $hamrock, it's all a dream come true:
"I feel blessed to be able to perform for a living, so I would never take it for granted. I treat every show like it's my last and my fans give the energy right back. I'm tryna make sure everybody gets their money's worth!"
"One thing I said 'If I start it, I'm a finish it'/I said it back then, wasn't nobody listenin"
As a 9-year-old listening to hip-hop greats in “1995”, Timothy Rasmussen never knew that his love of music would take him from his humble Decatur, GA beginnings to international stardom. After navigating the streets of ATL and enduring a lifetime of struggle, he received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to introduce $hamrock to the world via Vh1's White Rapper Show, in which he would capture the title, $100,000, and a countless number of fans worldwide.
G.E. Entertainment is proud to present $hamrock's debut LP, Worst 2 First, a cohesive and sonically-captivating soundtrack to one young man's remarkable, treacherous, yet ultimately successful journey through life.
The nostalgic title track takes listeners on a lyrically-deft retrospect while “Don't Stop, Get It” and “Make It A Point” provide even more background on the moments that made the man. Elsewhere, the themes of dedication and perseverance in “Money Right” and “Nightly” lead to the celebration of life found in “U See Me” and the 2008 Billboard-charting “Entourage”. Despite the successes however, the vulnerability of the highly-personal “Damn” demonstrate a conflicted mind still weary of the road that lies ahead. Notable features include one of XXL Magazine's Top Ten Freshmen B.o.B. (Grand Hustle/Rebel Rock/Atlantic), Platinum-selling recording artist Bonecrusher (Universal), Southern lyricist Bohagon (Asylum), and vocalist SJ Rose, front man for Orlando, FL vocal group Take 5.
Featuring production from some of Atlanta's brightest upcoming talents including Luney Tunez-N-Yo Area (Gucci Mane, Gorilla Zoe, Yung Joc), Ribah On The Beat (B.o.B. , Killer Mike, P$C), and Slim C, Worst 2 First includes contributions from industry heavyweights such as CyberSapp (Gucci Mane, YingYang Twins, David Banner) and Aktual (Young Jeezy, Bubba Sparxxx).
