Shand Walton and the All Amigos Club play edgy Americana music, uniquely blending rock, folk, country, mariachi, and blues. This energetic trio includes Shand Walton on guitar and vocals, John Duer on bass, and Cameron Rogers on drums. The fall of 2008 brought acclaim for the band as they were warmly welcomed during their tour of Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium. In April 2008, the group released the EP album, Rancho Motel Sessions, on the Toil & Trouble record label in Austin, Texas. Currently, the group is recording a full-length album to be released by the fall of 2009.
Over the years, Shand has persisted in writing music and playing various instruments for anyone curious enough to listen. Michael Molenda, editor of Guitar Player magazine, awarded Shand Walton the “Bravery on the Edge of Crazy” award in January of 2007. He described Shand’s music as “raw” and encouraged readers to “dare a listen, and be transported back to the juke joint days.” Shand’s discography, on Toil & Trouble Records, includes Ghost Town Favorites (2003), Fifteen Songs in Popular Keys (2005), and On the Bend (2007). The second album includes Shand’s version of “I'm Gonna Buy Me a Car,” featured on the Daniel Johnston website.
John Duer has played the blues in East Austin and country music all over Texas. In addition, John has played rock, Dixieland jazz, Americana, 50s-style folk (a la Kingston Trio), and other music that can't easily be categorized. John’s main instrument is bass, and depending on the type of music, he either plays an electric upright or a 5-string electric bass guitar. In addition to his versatility in musical styles, John also provides back-up vocals for the All Amigos Club.
Born into a musical family from Amarillo, Texas, Cameron Rogers sang and played piano and coronet in his youth, but by the age of 19 had discovered his true love: the drums. In 1995, Cam decided to leave the Panhandle behind and pursue a musical career in Austin. Cam quickly formed his first band, Big Breakfast, an instrumental funky, jazzy dub group. By 2000, the band had morphed into SpaceTruck, playing psychedelic rock. They played the first two Austin City Limit Music Festivals, released two CD’s, and went on several cross-country tours. In the past few years, Cam has been doing extensive session work at Arlyn Studios, providing the rhythm tracks for many different artists.
