Sounds Like
Soul-infused, folk rock, with a splash of mountain funk!
Shane Meade is a performing singer songwriter whose songs balance acoustic soul, folk-pop, rhythm and blues. His infectious vocals and lighthearted sound immediately draws one to his warmth, energy, and deep passion for sharing experiences through his music. Hailing from Elkins, West Virginia (a small town in those Wild & Wonderful parts) Shane is a self-taught late bloomer who borrowed an old guitar from his father and began playing and writing songs in the Summer of 2000. His music captivates the imagination, and audiences connect to his inspirational lyrics and universal subject matter. His ability to blend his influences with his own unique and soulful-style helps deliver an engaging live performance that is both powerful and uplifting.
From a "diamond in the rough", to an "artist on the rise", Shane remains simple and honest in his approach to songwriting. His intimate solo shows reveal candid moments of story-telling, highlighting the true pleasures and pain in life. Shane encourages audience interaction during these performances as he turns the stage into one's own living room as a way of giving back to those who continue to support and appreciate live music.
Jason "Fil" Pate joins the SOUND and the Tampa Bay area via the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina where he learned to play both acoustic and electric guitars. Along the way, Fil advanced his talents to the bass guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle and dulcimer. Fil has spent the past 15 years studying various genres of music including blues, Latin jazz, reggae, folk, southern rock, calypso and traditional blue-grass. On a night when Fil Pate is a featured member of the SOUND, many will witness a musical treat, and take a rhythmic ride into the unexpected.
Brian Lane brings 30 years of upright bass playing to the SOUND. He has played music as varied as country, rock, jazz, Irish, classical, and bluegrass but mainly enjoys anything with a good groove and strong melody. Brian also performs with Will Quinlan and the Diviners, and with Fil Pate in the Pickford Sundries.
Whether it's an intimate solo performance or full band experience with the SOUND, SMS strives to continue to create a style of music that not only passes the test of time, but builds a bridge between people and will touch the souls of all walks of life.
