The Songs on the myspace player are A/B comparisons of mastered and unmastered mixes
----------------- FAQ--------------------
What is mastering?
After all songs are mixed to taste, a mastering engineer creates a global "mix" for the entire record. This can be as complex as re-manipulating vocal levels between songs that were mixed by different mix engineers, or as simple as matching the low end between songs.
Will you make my songs as loud as (insert some very loud master such as Jay-Z)?
I can make your mixes very loud, and sometimes that is just what a project needs. Often, loud is not the most desirable attribute to a mix. Consider the dynamic impact, punch of the drums, and overall equalization of frequencies and instruments. I find that these qualities are far more important than overall loudness.
I am happy to use a reference recording as a template to match relative levels for mastering. Message me for more information on this.
What formats do you accept for mastering?
I will make it happen with however your mixes are formatted. Wav/AIFF/ SDII/Whatever digital format is fine. DAT/ 2 inch/ 1/4inch/ cassette tape is also fine. The turnaround time for analog masters may be a little longer.
How much do you charge?
I charge $50 a song for mastering, flat rate.
Cash, check, money order is all fine. Paypal is also accepted (soconnor@berklee.net)
payment must be received before final masters are delivered. I can send you test masters, which will include small crackles, and pops inserted randomly on the mater. This is the best way that I can make sure that I am paid on time while still offering a good listen through for my clients.
Can I attend the mastering session?
Totally! It gets lonely cooped up in this dark room all day. I will warn you though, mastering is not very entertaining.... so you may want to bring some beer.
