The world is a blur of images, places, traces, sounds, lakes and hills, alleyways and subways and highways and melodies…Inlets and outlets, rhythms and noises…
Such is Shane Watt’s debut album Elan’s Diner. It is the soundtrack of all the places he has seen and all those that still await him. His melodic, nostalgic debut is reminiscent of the innocence of 70’s pop psychedelia with a mournful folk attitude.
Watt’s act makes a refreshingly un-sceney brand of indie folk. Or, put another way, his music seems to have willfully missed the innovations of the last decades. The ignorance that would be death in other genres is a great aid in folk: this is low-rent acoustic guitar that cuts to what counts.
CNET Editors review
In the artist’s own words “ The creation of this album was my escape into a world just like ours – but a kinder version. The songs reflect the spirit of where I want to be. The place I’m looking for. All the things I cherish are here, in the music and the words.”
Watt has called Montreal home for the past twelve years and in that time has played alongside numerous artists, including Adamtozoe, Lederhosen Lucil, Biffy Perdu and Cooper Thomson. He currently works with long-time musical collaborator Krista Muir.
Watt is finishing new songs for an upcoming EP of his own material for an exhibit/performance this summer. The songs were written on the road and capture the spirit of cities he visited in the Southern and South-Western United States – their rhythms, colours, and atmospheres will be explored through these songs and will be accompanied with an exhibition of his city maps.
Hey man, just got your cd in the mail today, TOTALLY RAD, DUDE! Yeah, loving it as we speak. I don't know if I told you last time but I'm playing a Hofner guitar these days! It looks just like McCartney's Bass but as a guitar! Sounds fantastic. Hope you are well, talk to you soon. Take care, man!
Okay, I'm a lazy ass and I'm sorry. I have gotten over my paranoia of ordering things online with my credit card and your cd should be arriving to me shortly, I can't wait to hear it!
Hey man, how ya been? What's new? Here, just riding my scooter, our rally is this weekend and my band is playing a show at the bbq on Saturday night. Hope all is well. Miss you man, take care!

Hi Shane. Happy Holidays. We make doodles at the pub. Romps draws the little Bonhommes and I colour 'em in. Enjoy. Looking forward to seeing you play in January. Bring your skates.
Just wanted to say hi and let you know that I miss you tons. Edmonton is treating me great and I bought a telecaster the other day (you know how much I've always wanted one)! Anyway, now I gotta save up for my scooter and then I'm gonna buy a Rickenbacker after that (I think). Anyway, hope the tour goes well and can't wait to buy your album!
I'm David and I play guitar in Yoda's House (we talked a bit after the show about tabbing out "Semi Sweet"). Just wanted to say thanks again for coming out, and that we're all really hoping that we can do it again sometime. I hope the rest of the tour treated you guys well...take care.
