Music
I got into music at an early age. First 45 record I ever heard was "Surfin Bird" by the Trashmen, then the album "Beatles 65", then I just absorbed everything after that. The 1970's really is where I started buying and listening to records Elton John, Supetramp, Kiss, The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Nazareth, etc. Then I got fed up with pop the music of the later 70's and started listening to music such as Sex Pistols, SLF, The Clash, Buzzcocks, Iggy Pop, Ramones, Dead Boys, then Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedy's(Jello B. fan), TSOL, China White, Social Distortion, and more. I lived in a small town of 25,000 people in Montana, no one listened to punk music except me and about five other people I knew, and plus it empowered me somehow,( I enjoyed scaring people). I was into Metal at the same time I was into Punk, and being 18 it feeled right. Then I went to college where I kinda went retro picking up on a lot of sixties stuff I really neglegted such as Hendrix, Beatles, Johnny Cash, Dylan, Van Morrison, Zeppelin, Stones, Ry Cooder(rising sons collection),JJ Cale(70's,80's,90's) The 90s for me was a time of investigating new stuff, a lot of alternative music from the late night radio stations here in L.A.
Currently looking forward to the new Dylan Bootleg series coming out in October.
Worked on a new Pearl Jam Video recently.
Movies
Too many favorites to explain at this point.
Television
Any football(NFL Season is back!), baseball, basketball games. Love news shows, History Channel, and Food TV.
Mythbusters, Iron Chef America, Good Eats (Alton rules!)New Detectives, Weaponology, Future Weapons, Forensic Files. Although I have worked on a fair share of Network Episodic TV, I really don't watch it myself that much.
About me: Hi there I'm Phil Shanahan. I was born in Helena, Montana where I lived until I was 18.
After that I went to college at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA for a year, then transferred to LMU in Los Angeles where I got a BFA in film. I worked 5 years at Panavision in Tarzana, CA and then began working as an Assistant Cameraman. I worked on several films as an AC, and have had the privilege of working around a lot of top Actors and Directors, as well as Directors of Photography. All during this time I continued my work as an independent Filmmaker. I've won a couple awards on my film "Lost Victories" which is posted along side some of my better works. I currently have a backlog of projects waiting to uploaded. They will become available as soon as they are finished and encoded. In the meantime I hope you enjoy the site.
