Bananas, huh. What is this party anyway? We figured it
should be a night packed with jump up beats and splashing
fountains of alchohol. A chance to hear some intense mixing
on four turntables between three seasoned (grizzled) club
DJs. The musical outcome of endless soulseeking and
limewiring on three laptops in Shanghai, where none of us
could afford to lug our vinyl collections.
Lowdown and dirty, we put soundsystems to the test with
the crotch-kicking deep bass of Baltimore club, classic
Miami bass and Brazilian baile funk, and the thick crunk of
club-smashing hip hop. We reach way back for early
rock'n'roll, the voodoo drum breaks of funk, the wacky steez of
the 80s and the myspace global phenomenon of readymade beats
from all over the place. It all gets mixed together with the
weight on living each day to the fullest and dancing
like you don't give a shit. Amen.
