JOE FERRY- Joe has been in the business for many years and has produced two
Skatalites albums , "H-Bop Ska" and "Greetings from Skamania". His sound
has more of an instumental Skatalites feel to it.
LOS HOOLIGANS- Los Hooligans have established themselves in the Ska scene for
over 10 years now. There sound has a strong Latin/ Big Band feel to it.
THE ISRAELITES- Being the oldest Ska band in L.A. , The Israelites have established themselves across the U.S. and Mexico.
COMPANY BIO
Shantytown began in 2002 by Rich Carlstedt, ( Lead Singer, Guitarist for The
Israelites). Being involved in the L.A. Ska scene since 1988 Rich has been in several bands including The Twilight tones and the Federales (which featured members of Hepcat and Donkey Show). He has also been responsable for uniting musicians together for bands such as; Vessels & the Rhythm Doctors Through the years Rich has established himself and his band through touring and playing thousands of shows both small and large. In the U.S. and Mexico.
Rich has had two labels before which ended due to circumstances behond his control. Shantytown however is a one of a kind company that has been more successful and will be around for a long time.
Shantytown has three arms;
RECORDING- We sign only bands that have respect and want to recapture the
true Jamaican sounds from the 60's. When you sign on Shantytown we treat you with respect (unlike most other labels). One way is by giving you your masters back after we have recouped our funds.
DISTRIBUTION- Shantytown distributes to indie stores across the u.s. We do
most of our distribution on a consignment basis so that we can get into any store easlily. We also have many connections such as Jump Up Records, Stubborn Records & Spitshine Records, to name a few.
We trade with these labels so your cd goes to many places. We are always looking for bands to sign or distribute so contact us if you or someone you know may be interested.
PROMOTIONS- Shantytown also puts on Ska/Reggae shows here in Los Angeles about every two months.
THE SHANTYTOWN WEBSITE
The Shantytown website has just recently been re-launched. Our on-line store services both the individual buyer as well as record stores. If you as an individual wish to purchase cds' from our store we offer some great music at great prices with FREE shipping. We have a good selection of Revival Ska and Reggae as well as titles from Trojan, Studio one and Heartbeat and are always adding and updating our inventory. If you buy 5 cds you get one free (valued at $12 or less).
If you are a buyer for a record store you can sign up on our site and take advantage of our wholesale prices. We prefere to upfront or 90 day billing purchases but if you wish to start off as a consignment it can be arranged. Our goal is to be the number one supplier of Ska and Reggae on the planet.
PERSONAL BIO
I'm 40 years old (but have a body of a 22 year old). I'm married to a beutiful woman named Jackie. I have 3 kids, (Boy & Girl twins & another boy) . I work for CocaCola.
I've been in the Scene since 1988 and my favorite bands/artists are The Skatalites and Prince Buster as well as any authentic sounding band.
Most importantly is my relationship with Jesus Christ. He died on the Cross for my sins (and everyones) and my soul purpose in life (though I fail often) is to
strive to serve him.
