Johan Cleve & Niklas Rundquist met when backing rockpoet iodine Jupiter on tour, shortly after his Sony/Startone release that Niklas co-wrote and preproduced. Johan played the guitar and Niklas electric violin/ keyboards. Johan, with a background as a punk/hardrockmusician and a unique sense of vocal lines and Niklas, with a classical background but on a synth/sampletrip in the ambient realms, involved in film/media music and installations. They soon considered a cooperation since the chemistry was good but it took two years before they finally took the leap, gradually coming up with some pretty dark but melodic music where guitars, samples and fx married in a way never heard before. SSA has been featured in Electronic Musician
and went straight into number 3 on C-Tubes 45th video chart to finally reach number 1 on the 46th chart with Cut To The Bone the 11th of mars 2009.
Their music certainly evoke pictures and is also much appreciated by filmproducers. Recent tracks tend to be more electronic but they refuse to linger on a well trodden path if inspiration is pushing towards a new direction. The only constant in the artistic work is that they rather stand beside the mainstream in favour of exploration but never on the expense of strong melodic contents. Hence the name ShapeShiftingAliens.

on saturday the 25th of july my first Camcorder by night movie is coming up. It was produced the same way as Ed Wood’s „Glen or Gelda“ in 1953. His script about transsexuality was transformed into „Ghoul or Ghost“ - the true story of a necromaniac. Be my special guest!
