Biography
Born in Naples, under a "gemini sky", Shara (Sarah Ancarola) started her journey through the world of music at the age of twelve by recording a Christmas album. After highschool she got a deeper knowledge in singing and solfege by entering the Popular University of the Arts (Naples) where she studied vocal education, diction, acting, dancing and miming. Whilst at the university she participated in seminars on theatrical make up as well as TV and film direction. Between 1998 and 2000 she worked with different emerging bands having gigs in pubs and discos around Italy with a repertoire ranging from pop, rock, blues, funky, soul to dance music. At the same time Shara had the possibility to collaborate with some Neapolitan radios and local TV channels. She also became part of a gospel choir with which she toured Europe. This brought her to London, an ideal city for an artist like Shara who writes, composes and paints and as she says: "No matter where I am my inspiration is just around at the corner”.
Another important stage of her career, that introduced Shara to the music industry, was at the end of the ‘90s. That was, when she met Alfredo Petroli who by then had produced Alexia. Shara recorded a cover in a dance version for him.
In 2000 she started to work with the Neapolitan musician and producer Luca Stendardo and together they gave life to her musical project made up of pop, rock and ethnic sounds mixed up in a perfect fusion.
In 2003 Shara worked with one of the members of the “Blackbox” group, Valerio Semplici, and together they produced “Feet on fire”. This song was successfully aired in the summer of 2003 by many Spanish dance radios and discos.
In the autumn of 2004 she started the recording of her first album “Pranava Rainbow” which was the fruit of her first four years of friendship and collaboration with the producer Luca Stendardo.
In 2005 she had the opportunity to be a guest singer in the production of some albums by other important musicians and in 2006 she regularly attended a course in singing as a soloist and chorus. At the beginning of 2007 Shara moved to London where she lived nearly one year. There she had the opportunity of working with some artists and dj and together they made new songs. Shara could also work as a supporting artist in the music video shoot "Ain't the same" by Kris Baya and play the role as an extra in various English films. In the same period she could work at the Dominion Theatre where they were staging the musical "We Will Rock You" written by English comedian and author Ben Elton in collaboration with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor.
At the moment she's performing with her band in clubs, festivals and events and working at her second album.
The inner path
Music has always been the outstanding passion of Shara. Her artistic journey started with a gospel song and as if directed by her inborn music propensities she was attracted by Eastern philosophies and by the mystic doctrines of the Indian gurus. It can therefore be said that her spiritual route, which is made up of meditation and devotion to the Eastern philosophies, was harmoniously parallel to that of her artistic journey.
It is by rocking in the ancient scent of incense that evokes the silence in which the awakening is hidden. The rediscovery of the great legendary Myths of celtic and Western tradition came after, but they were not of secondary interesting in Shara’s training. However she took a necessary imaginary passage through “India” before Shara found her way back home. The result is an enchanting fusion between sounds and colours of the new millennium together with the past echoes of the “return to the origin”. Curiosity, thirst for knowledge and for musical research led Shara to cross the Mediterranean and to get to India, a land of contrasting elements, of reality and of imagination, which has always been present in her songs. It is this thirst for the absolute which was posed as a goal for her journey. That is, evaluating the meeting point between past and future, east and west, essence and existence, being and not being and then transferring this dimension into her music. Although the chant of the soul is sometimes sweet, it has a rebellious streak, and is as essentially free as a gospel music and Shara who is constantly on the run away from the chains of limits.
It is the soul of shanti, the peace in the heart, body and mind, which accompanies the birth of musical pearls like “India”, the first single written and conceived by Shara and composed together with Luca Stendardo; “Nothing on your mount” (all comes from nothingness) and of the pop-jungle “Divine” (the seed of what is up above is hidden in everyone). These are just some of the songs included in her first album “Pranava Rainbow” (the Rainbow of Eternal Sound). And with the song of her soul, Shara, affirms that “Pranava Rainbow” is not an arrival, but just a magical landing, a first important step towards the GOAL, the reason of her own existence: MUSIC.

Shara, di origini partenopee, inizia il suo viaggio nel mondo della musica all’età di 12 anni incidendo un disco natalizio.
Dopo gli studi liceali, approfondisce gli studi di canto e solfeggio e si iscrive all’ Università Popolare dello Spettacolo, dove studia educazione vocale, dizione, recitazione, danza e mimo. Partecipa anche a seminari di trucco teatrale, regia televisiva e cinematografica. Tra il 1998 ed il 2000 collabora con diverse bands emergenti esibendosi in diversi locali e discoteche d’Italia con un repertorio musicale esclusivamente straniero che spazia dal pop al rock, al blues, fino ad arrivare al funky ed alla dance. Sempre nello stesso periodo Shara ha l’opportunità di collaborare con diverse radio napoletane ed alcune emittenti televisive locali. Contemporaneamente, entra a far parte di un coro gospel e partecipa con quest’ultimo a diverse tournee europee, che la portano spesso a Londra, la città e la dimensione ideale per un’artista come Shara che scrive più facilmente in inglese e che compone come dice lei stessa “quel che le viene dove le viene”. Altra tappa importante della sua carriera che inizia ad introdurla nel mondo della discografia, è determinata dall’incontro, alla fine degli anni ’90, con Alfredo Petroli, già produttore di Alexia, per il quale incide una cover rivisitata in chiave dance. Nel 2000 inizia la collaborazione con il musicista e produttore Luca Stendardo con il quale Shara dà completamente vita al suo progetto musicale fatto di perfetta fusione tra pop, rock e musica etnica.
Nel 2003 ha una breve esperienza di collaborazione con uno dei membri del gruppo “Black box”, Valerio semplici, con il quale realizza il brano “Feet on fire” programmato con successo da numerose radio di musica dance e suonato in diverse discoteche d’Europa. Tra il 2004 ed il 2005 conclude il suo primo album “Pranava Rainbow” frutto dei primi cinque anni di amicizia e collaborazione con il produttore Luca stendardo.
Nel 2005 Shara ha l‘opportunità di essere ospite nelle produzioni di alcuni importanti musicisti italiani e nel 2006 frequenta regolarmente un corso regionale per coristi. All’ inizio del 2007 comincia, invece, la sua avventura londinese che durerà all’incirca 1 anno dove avrà così occasione di collaborare con alcuni artisti e dj inglesi per la realizzazione di brani musicali. Nello stesso tempo Shara ha anche l’opportunità di partecipare alle riprese del videoclip “Ain’t the same” dell’artista Kris Baya e di figurare come comparsa in alcune produzioni cinematografiche inglesi. In quello stesso periodo lavora al Dominion Theatre dove va in scena il musical “We Will Rock You” scritto dai Queen e Ben Elton. Al momento Shara si esibisce col suo gruppo in diversi locali italiani e conteporaneamente è
impegnata a scrivere i brani del suo secondo album.
Il percorso interiore
Se è vero che gli occhi sono lo specchio dell’anima, gli occhi di Shara sono il mare limpido che bagna i mille territori della sua anima tra i quali spicca su tutti la musica. Il suo percorso artistico inizia con un gospel e come d’incanto sulla scia della musica dell’anima si avvicina contemporaneamente alle filosofie orientali ed alle dottrine mistiche dei guru indiani. L’itinerario è quindi parallelo in maniera armoniosa al suo “viaggio” dell’anima, fatto di meditazione e dedizione alle filosofie orientali. E’ il cullarsi in quell’antico profumo d’incensi che ispira il silenzio dentro cui si nasconde il risveglio. Successiva, ma non secondaria, è la sua riscoperta dei grandi miti leggendari della tradizione celtica ed occidentale, ma è necessario un immaginario passaggio per l’ “India” prima del ritorno a casa. Il risultato è un’incantevole fusione tra i suoni e i colori del nuovo millennio e gli echi e i sapori del “ritorno alle origini”. La curiosità, la sete di conoscenza e di ricerca musicale, portano quindi Shara ad attraversare il mediterraneo e ad arrivare sino all’India, terra del reale e dell’immaginario, che è sempre presente nelle sue canzoni.
E’ questa sete d’assoluto che pone come obiettivo del suo viaggio quello di sperimentare il punto di “congiunzione” tra passato e futuro, oriente ed occidente, essenza ed esistenza, tra l’essere ed il non essere, per poi trasferire questa dimensione nella sua musica. Il canto dell’anima è ribelle, a volte dolce, ma essenzialmente libero come un gospel e come Shara che corre costantemente via dalle catene del limite.
E’ lo spirito dello “Shanti”, “la pace nel cuore, nel corpo e nella mente”, che accompagna la nascita di perle musicali quali “India”, il primo singolo ideato e scritto da Shara e composto insieme a Luca Stendardo; “Nothing on your mount” (è dal nulla che nasce il tutto) e del pop-jungle di “Divine” (in ognuno di noi si cela il seme di ciò che è sopra di noi). Questi solo alcuni dei brani compresi nel suo primo album “Pranava Rainbow” (arcobaleno del suono eterno), interamente arrangiato dal musicista e produttore Luca Stendardo.
E’ con il canto della sua anima che Shara confessa che “Pranava Rainbow” non rappresenta un arrivo, ma solo un magico approdo, la prima importante tappa verso la META, ovvero verso la ragione della sua stessa esistenza: la MUSICA.
“Io sono terra, acqua, fuoco, aria, spazio, intelligenza, ragione ed egoismo e tutti i precedenti sul piano illusorio. Io sono il suono, ovvero l’essenza occulta sottostante a tutte le cose menzionate”.
