About me:
SHARE: Men and Women Sharing Responsibility to Make a Difference is a student peer education group whose members are trained in providing information regarding interpersonal violence prevention e.g. sexual assault, relationship violence and, stalking while examining the impact of violence within the University of South Carolina (USC) community. Along with providing information, SHARE works to instill the idea of active involvement in dealing with prevention by promoting bystander accountability in everyday interactions. SHARE has two initiatives, United for Impact - women's task force and Changing Carolina - men's task force. The purpose of these initiatives is to provide targeted outreach and to address gender specific needs.
SHARE also focuses on the importance of communication and developing healthy relationships. One aspect of healthy relationships involves personal decisions about one's sexuality and sexual health. This group of peer educators is dedicated to supplying accurate information about sexual health including contraception, sexually transmitted infections, safer sex practices, abstinence, and other sexual health issues. SHARE also creates an open and safe environment for discussion of topics such as sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, and healthy communication. This open environment extends to members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community as the SHARE peers strive to raise awareness in issues relating to the GLBTQ community.
Through campus-wide awareness campaigns, peer-facilitated presentations, and special event,s SHARE works to promote healthy relationships while speaking out against bigotry, discrimination, and homophobia. SHARE peers are trained to provide and unbiased, trusting, and understanding atmosphere while presenting on such issues.
