In her self-titled debut project, the fire that God set deep in her penetrates, and radiates through those around her. Both in personality and in voice, Shari exudes a force that is not big or loud, but clear and powerful; and on Shari Demby’s FEl Music Group, she shines her light - so the rest of us can hear.
Worship's quest for Shari began at a young age; because even before she knew what it was, it had her heart. As a young girl enjoying devotional time at church in Baltimore, she found a curiosity and hunger for closeness with God. Reminiscing, Shari says, "We didn't really know what praise and worship was as we do now. My sister and I used to make fun of what we called the 'praise you Jesus' music, but before we knew it, it started to 'get' to us! We now know that was praise & worship music." And the freedom she found in that high place of worship would become familiar. It would, and has, become home.
"I really have been in music ministry all of my life, but true worship doesn't allow things to become routine." Shari explains. "We have such freedom in Him. In worship, I often tell people to do whatever they feel they need to do to touch the heart God. I just desire that everyone understand that this whole experience is about having a relationship with God and to truly know that where ‘His spirit is, there is liberty’."
This daughter of Minister of Music mother and a bass-playing father, puts together a cohesive yet free-flowing project on her first time out. With eight songs from her pen, Shari's debut covers a spectrum of celebratory up-tempo songs and beautiful ballads to the Lord. From the infectious "We Love You" to the soft sway of "Real", one might feel the same about Shari's music as you are sure to feel about her essence - instantly amazed.
Shari serves as a Worship Leader under the ministry of Bishop Noel Jones' City of Refuge in Los Angeles. "Music is my life," she says. "It is who I am." With a warm smile and a sweet song, this young woman puts a new face on the landscape of worship leaders. With only a handful of female pioneers to set her sights on, she, in a way, is blazing her own trail.
Over the last eight years, Shari has opened for the Back to School Stop the Violence Think Education Put God First Youth Empowerment 4 Destiny Conference and Concert, an event for Noel Jones Scholarship with celebrities such as Chris Tucker, Tia & Tamera, Cast of the Bernie Mac Show, Byron Cage, Trinitee 5-7, Little Iroc Williams, Tonex, Donnie McClurkins, and Fred Hammond, just to name a few.
She has also opened up for City of Refuge Conferences with Bishop T.D. Jakes, Paula White, Bishop Noel Jones, Bishop Kenneth Ulmer, and a host of others.
She has recorded one CD of Worship and Praise and is ready to record another one. Shari is a must-see, must-hear, and must-listen-to angel of the Lord - the minute she opens her mouth. She has a wonderfully humble spirit, and she loves the Lord.
Shari's voice is bright and soaring, and conveys the promise of her success. The energy she possesses commands attention. As she pushes through questions and challenges any young woman would face, she wraps them under the wings of worship through her music. But only as God could orchestrate it, this force creates energy; and from that energy - a spark emerges.
