Sounds LikeMany people immediately hear shades of Sarah Vaughan or Ella Fitzgerald when listening to Ms. Clark -- but if you listen closely, you'll also notice phrasing and enunciation similar to Johnny Hartman or Mel Torme. Ms. Clark takes you on a journey with every song she sings -- and you, as the listener, are glad you're along for the ride!

   About Sharón Clark
Washington-area audiences have long been fans of Sharón Clark. Her gold medal victory at the Savannah Music Festival's American Traditions Competition in April 2007 is no surprise to them and is just one of many accolades received by Ms. Clark.

In August of 2007, Ms. Clark was once again a winner -- capturing the top prize in the 2007 Billie Holiday Vocal Competition in Baltimore, Maryland.

In April 2006, Ms. Clark’s standing-room-only performance at the Cape May Jazz Festival lead to the following review in JazzTimes magazine:

“Sharón Clark, a singer based in the Baltimore/D.C. area, proved a revelation. . . If you think you hear shades of Billie Holiday when Madeleine Peyroux sings, how about the spirit of Sarah Vaughan? Clark not only conjures up memories of the Divine Sarah; she does them justice. I never thought I’d hear a singer with the range, musicality and command of tone and timbre that was Sarah at her best, but now I have.”

Ms. Clark started singing at the age of seven and has not stopped since. When she released her debut recording in 1997 – “Finally,” on the Union Records label – the critics were unanimous. Columnist Mike Joyce of The Washington Post labeled Clark “the lady equipped with a lusty voice,” adding that “Clark’s sumptuous alto voice is always a joy to hear.” Martin Shram of Washingtonian Magazine said Clark “may be the finest jazz singer in the [Washington] area.”

Ms. Clark appears regularly at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C and at Laportas Jazz and Restaurant in Alexandria, VA. She also has performed at the Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, the Lincoln Theater, the Smithsonian Jazz Café, the One Step Down and Twins Jazz. In July 2001, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra featured Ms. Clark in its tribute to Quincy Jones. In August 2003, Ms. Clark was a featured vocalist for the Keter Betts 75th Birthday Celebration hosted by the Smithsonian Institution at the personal request of Mr. Betts. In 1998, Ms. Clark performed by invitation for President William Jefferson Clinton and other dignitaries at a retreat sponsored by the Democratic National Committee.

Festival credits include sold-out performances at the East Coast Jazz Festival and the Cape May Jazz Festival, as well as the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival. Her stage credits include a rousing performance as Nell in "Ain't Misbehavin" produced by the Firehouse Theatre in Newburyport, Massachusetts; and regular performances of "Sistas Can Sang," a tribute to female jazz legends.
