I have the same feeling about NASCAR these days. It's not who wins but who doesn't that makes me happy.

Your driver (and mine) garnered the following mention in washingtonpost.com's The Reliable Source column today: "NASCAR driver Ward Burton better looking in person and shorter than expected."

I miss seeing him on Sundays; rooting for Baby Brother in the CAT car simply isn't the same. In fact, it's almost painful.

Whatever I'm working on-- I am finishing a new Ballad novel for Thomas Dunne Books The Devil Amongst the Lawyers, is set in 1935 in southwest Virginia, and features the young Nora Bonesteel. My template for this novel is the 17th century Japanese poem by Matsuo Basho "Oku No Kosomichi." My first co-authored work, a comic Southern novel written with ARCA/NASCAR driver Adam Edwards, has just found a publisher. Then: Celtic folklore and its American derivatives; Appalachian music and culture; Southern frontier history; NASCAR; and Japanese.
  • Music

Opera-- more on that later. Traditional Appalachian Ballads and Scots/Irish music. The program on my Ballad novels with musical accompaniment by Celtibillies guitarist Jack Hinshelwood, has performed by us at libraries and colleges in 13 states and in Canada.
  • Movies

A film of my novel "The Rosewood Casket" is in the casting stage, and they hope to begin shooting soon. See my blog for an account of my adventures when Hollywood came to town.
