The Little Foxes
By Lillian Hellman
Directed by Brandon Bruce

The Little Foxes is Lillian Hellman's most popular work of drama. The sibling characters at the center of her hugely successful play are caught in a cycle of revenge as ripe and bloodthirsty as any classic Greek tragedy. Driven by insatiable greed to acquire ever more wealth, the Hubbards will steal, plot, and sacrifice all family ties as they attempt to invest in one of the first cotton mills to industrialize the New South. While literary critics argue whether the popularity of Hellman's play is due to its value as an allegory or its appeal as a satire, the story maintains an enduring relevance, dramatizing the predatory capitalism that Hellman felt threatens the American ethic.

About Shattered Globe Theatre
Shattered Globe Theatre is best known for its character-driven interpretations of the best in contemporary classic theatre and new work, including such successes as Judgment at Nuremberg, Coyote on a Fence, High Life, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and, most recently, The House of Blue Leaves, Dealer's Choice and Come Back, Little Sheba. Dedicated to the philosophy of ensemble, it is the mission of Shattered Globe to produce work that dissects, challenges and revels in the American experiment; raises questions rather than espousing philosophy; stimulates growth in and broadens the perspective of both artist and audience; and pushes the boundaries of excellence in ensemble theatre. To this end, Shattered Globe presents fresh renditions of American classics and premiere productions that celebrate new voices and innovative viewpoints. Over the course of its 17-year history, Shattered Globe has earned the acclaim of press and audiences alike, and has been honored with a total of 93 Jeff Award Nominations, winning 42 (including an Award win for ensemble member Maury Cooper for his supporting role in Judgment at Nuremberg). SGT has been featured on the front page of the New York Times arts section for its hit revival of William Inge's Come Back, Little Sheba.

Abe on Jupiter, a weekly workshoping group that has been around for three years, is seeking new influences and new playwrights. We are looking for writers like ourselves who have produced or at least have college training in theater. If you are a playwright and are looking to workshop a play and are willing to commit to a weekly meeting, please contact me for more info. We meet in a coffee house in the West Loop after hours, so we have the whole place to ourselves, but the menu is still available. We are also always looking for actors of any calibre who want to network with playwrights, brush up on cold reads and get involved periodic staged readings
Spotlight Theater

Nov 30 2007 11:09 PM

Spotlight Seeks Actress to Fill the Role of Bianca in William Shakespeare's Othello. Actress should be between the ages of 18-40.

This is an exciting opportunity for those involved. I guarantee you won't find another show like this! The play takes place in modern day at a marketing firm in Venice Beach, California. Othello's coworkers are shocked to learn that Othello and Desdemona have gone to Canada to be married. What's so unusual about that? Well, Othello and Desdemona are both women!

Be a part of this tragic classic, newly reinterpreted to address an issue that has urgent relevance today!

Rehearsals are Mondays, Thursdays and Friday evenings: 6:30PM-9:30PM in Oak Forest, IL.

The show will take place on January 11-13 and January 18-19 at Governors State University in University Park, IL. There is no pay but there will be a free DVD of the show provided to all cast members.

Please message back if interested or contact Director Jane Cox at (708) 207-1361 or jane_cox@hotmail.com

"I think I have just seen the future of American Theatre.”
—Michael Bourne, Circle Repertory Company

“Spiritually barren lives given meaning by fundamentalist religion. Comfortable lifestyles devoid of passion. And the finality of the gun. All reflect what happened to American values . . . and they form the subject of Edward Crosby Wells’ challenging new play, Flowers out of Season . . . one of the best things this innovative theater has done.”
—Jeff Bradley, Denver Post

*This play contains violence, sexual themes and language. There are also gunshot sound effects.
