Sounds Like
Some kind of crazy assed hybrid of all the above probably.
Formed in early 1998, by Dave, Tosh, Brian and Rams in an effort to get all the surplus energy and anger out of our collective system, we set about writing a bunch of songs to see what would happen. After four practices the chance came to play a couple of shows with Vanilla Pod and being the idiots that we are, we drunkenly agreed.
I guess that was kinda when we were born for real - More shows followed throughout Scotland with the likes of Diesel Boy, UK Subs etc and we decided to head into the studio and stick a few songs down, more for posterity than anything else, but we figured it would be a blast and if anyone else was screwed up enough to like it then fair enough. That session produced the "Act Your Rage” demo in 1999 and surprisingly enough we were pretty damn chuffed with it. Even more astonishing was the fact that we managed to get a whole bunch of cool reviews in loads of zines and got offered even more gigs on the back of it.
Anyway, heaps more gigs and by now we were actually starting to get a bit of a reputation for our "extreme" live shows and fired-up outpourings. So we hocked our asses up to the hilt and headed back into Riverside Studios to record the first album "Wreckage" - a 14 track affair which we reckon covers just about every part of our influences, from SLF to Samiam.
Sadly, Rams decided at this point that his other commitments just didn't leave time to concentrate enough on Shatterhand, so we had to find ourselves a new bass player - enter stage right Monty and we climb aboard a tour with Turtlehead and Beauty School Dropout and took our lame assed speed-freak melodic punk down to England for the first time.
After returning, we found that new songs we're flowing and before we could get off the credit blacklist, we were once again ensconced in Riverside recording another 13 songs to become the "Planting Seeds" album. Another English tour followed with The Siknotes, Shelter etc and we realise that the best existence on this planet is going from town to town playing the tunes you love and having a blast with your mates!!
A few compilation CD’s later and having been busy getting hauled out of transits by traffic police throughout Scotland, we went back out on tour in England to promote the third CD “Bone Palace Ballet” again released on our own Mythical Records; Self financing to the bitter end but Hell, it's punk rock innit!! By now we were getting likened to Rancid, Leatherface and Hot Water Music in numerous reviews, which was well smart. We kind of broke Monty touring, so he left on good terms and after a little searching we found Mike. A great guy, similar sense of humour, quality tattoos and a shit hot bass player. We kicked things up a notch and went to Ireland for a tour with The Dangerfields. Mike was settling in great so we’ve been playing shows throughout the UK since with the likes of Fireapple Red, Captain Everything, Kenisia, I Adapt etc.
The fourth album “Random Acts Of Defiance” which is due out in Feb 05 is shaping up to be the best yet, four good mates ill at ease with the corporate western dream, still DIY, still punk rock and still having a blast.
So, that's it really, not much of a history, but we’re loving every fucking minute of it, and as far as we're concerned that's all that matters.
No mean feat. If you 4, me, marv and my cat played against them we'd batter them. Boston are a shadow of the team they once were. Demoted 3 leagues in 2 seasons - not bad, eh? Thanks very much Steve Evans.
