   About shauna mullin
Hailing from Co, Donegal, 25 year old Shauna Mullin is an up and coming singer who has been described as being one of Ireland’s finest exponents of Irish traditional song at present. Her style of singing and repertoire have been heavily influenced by her family, namely her granduncle – the great Paddy Tunney along with singers such as Dick Gaughan, Dolores Keane and Iarla Ó Lionáírd to name but a few.

In 1999, Shauna won an All-Ireland title in English language song and has since performed extensively on the Irish music circuit. In 2005, she was a finalist in Music Network’s Young Musicwide Award alongside Kieran Munnelly, Sean Óg Graham, Ryan Molloy and Aidan O’Donnell. Over the past few years, she has featured at many major festivals including Celtic Connections (Glasgow), Dranouter festival (Belgium), Labadoux festival (Belgium) and Tonder Festival (Denmark) and in 2007, she performed at the Royal Opera House in London alongside musician and composer Luke Daniels. She has performed with groups and artists such as Téada, Michael Rooney, Na Casaidaigh, Ciaran Coughlan and Steve Cooney.

In 2007, Shauna gained an MA in Irish traditional Music Performance fro the University of Limerick, having previously achieved a BA in Irish Traditional Music and Dance.

She is currently touring as lead singer with the hugely popular 'David Munnelly Band' and was recently awarded the prestigious title 'Newcomer of the Year' by Live Ireland.

“You probably have not heard Donegal's Shauna Mullin, yet. You will. She is the voice of the future of Irish traditional music. She is now the singer with the extraordinarily popular, David Munnelly Band. We saw her in concert in 2007, and have never been so stunned in a performance setting. Extraordinary. A Gift. She is an alto. Think a young and vibrant Dolores Keane, but an even warmer, more open, intuitive voice. As usual with LiveIreland, you hear it here first. We received this live performance of Ned on the Hill for you. We know of no first album being looked forward to by so many people. How many singers do you see get a standing ovation in a live performance after their first song? There are only a few really, truly great trad singers---think Cathie Ryan, Eddi Reader, Eilis Kennedy, Muirerann Nic Amhlaoibh and Mairi Campbell. Now add Shauna Mullin. Before her journey is over, she may be the best of all time. Correct. She is that great. She is that special. Get on board early---it will be a glorious trip”.

(see my blog for details):
CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY

As gospellers have said,
Beneath signalling skies,
On land dusty to tread,
A trough in a stable
Was the strawy first-bed
Of a divine baby -
The forgiving Godhead.

A season for new hope -
There then and here now;
The yuletide of goodwill -
There then and here now.

In respect of this chance,
Beneath bright or dark skies,
Faith's the star that we glance
Attending Christ's churches
And trying to enhance,
With singing and ritual,
Our God-loving stance.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
