members of the Blue Aeroplanes;
plus, John Matthias (violin); John Slattery (bass); Martin Harvey (upright bass); Toby Field (keyboards)
My second album is being co-produced with Paul Wigens (Blurt, Grand Drive, Cousteau.) Paul also plays drums on many of the tracks. Bristol stalwart, John Slattery, completes the rhythm section while Bristol musical maestro, Paul Bradley is adding some of his guitar and vocal magic. There will also be a whole assortment of musical talent (old friends and new) adding their own unique ingredients to the pot.

Hello and welcome to this portal into my musical world!
'Family Man' is my debut album. 'Christmas in Mousehole' is a Christmas-themed EP I recorded, which features live favourite 'I Got Wood'. The Shaun McCrindle Trio featured John Matthias on violin and John Slattery on bass, with Paul Wygens guesting on percussion. My second album should be completed by the end of Summer 2009.
In my time, I have also played guitar with John Matthias (now signed to Ninja Tunes) and Bristol band, the Blue Aeroplanes. I have writing credits on albums by both these artists and have performed live with them at venues such as Womad Festival and the Pompidou Centre, in Paris.
I used to play with a 'Hank Williams side project', Hi-wayster. Check out the Hi-wayster Friends link from my page, if you're interested in hearing some of that material.
I have recently teamed-up with multi-instrumentalist Pete Burns to perform a mixture of our respective songs and songs by others. Check gig listings to find out when we're playing together.
If you would like to view an amusing video clip of me trying to perform an acoustic song over a loud ringing phone, go to 'view my video' (I haven't ventured onto youTube yet!)
REVIEW OF 'FAMILY MAN'
“A Bristolian who has served his time with the Blue Aeroplanes, McCrindle’s debut is a wry, unfussy album of acoustic Americana somewhere between Roger McGuinn and the backwoods gothic of Jim White that ‘examines the relationship between family life and personal fulfilment’. It’s full of optimistic charm, bittersweet compromise and a warm tribute to his family. The songwriting is solid throughout. ‘Only One Road’ is sinewy and simple, others like ‘Work of Art’ are embellished with discreet African percussion, strings and a hotly cross small child demanding that dad puts down his guitar. It’s a measure of his skill that ‘Children’, a heartfelt tribute to new priorities (“Goodbye rock and roll”) avoids being either twee or mawkish and instead is touching. He’s a big softy, really.”

Hey Shaun, How is it going ? I've just listened to your new songs : so deep and full of feeling. I put the Copter demo songs on my page : it's really funny to listened to the "vintage" sound, as we recorded in that small room at portishead. Old memories...

Howdy Shaun! MySpace is a very convenient way to stay in touch. Good to see you're still deep into music! "Only one road" is still my favourite... All the best, JG
Hiya Shaun! How's things?! If you get a chance to listen, there’s a new song on my myspace, a quiet live recording of Packer’s Field. Song notes on the blog, lyrics on my website. Cheers! x
I like your album alot. I can't recall track title's 'cos it's in my car at the moment. It's a good driving album. 'Family man' is a really cool song, it's got a real lou reed vibe about it. 'beautiful world' is great too. i'd heard these songs on your 3 track demo before but I also really like that country sounding track 'there is only one road...'. There's one track that's very leonard cohen sounding which always grabs my attention. 'Children' is good as well. It's a really good album and a refreshing change, nice to hear someone writing about something a bit different.
