She can't read, but we read People Magazine to her to keep her up-to-date with what's happening. She also loves the Chicken Soup books.

Sonny ... he stuck with her for almost a year after the accident; he'd probably still be here today if we hadn't encouraged him to move on because he's too young to waste his life waiting; he has a life to live. So chill all of you who thinks he shouldn't be dating!
About me: 20 years old ... o.k. ... 21 in August (2007). Shawna was in a bad car accident November 11, 2003 and sustained a traumatic brain injury. She spent 7 months in hospitals; currently she is in her parents' home in a persistent vegetative/minimal consciousness state. For those of you who knew Shawna, this will serve as a means to update you about her (sorry it took us so long to do this) ... for those of you who don't know her, it's a place to learn about her and follow her story. For more information on Shawna, go to www.caringbridge.org/visit/shawnaweil. We will be updating that journal soon regarding fundraiser events that will be forthcoming, so that we can take Shawna to China for treatment.
My dear friends. Of course I will keep tabs on her and try to stay in contact with you. Please let me know how she is and how her progress is going. Let me say that because God is still in control and your daughter has amazing friends and wonderful family, there's NO reason why she can't and won't completely recover and shock any and all who've given up. I'm living proof that ANYTHING is possible. Never quit and NEVER give up and great things can and will happen. --Dave
Shawna and family, First... thank you for the add. Second, you are all in my prayers and if you need to write, vent, scream at someone, I'm here and will gladly listen. I'm a survivor as well and always looking for new and incredible therapy that can change things and do the amazing and know the value of a family who won't give up. I'm proof. There IS always hope.
