“Shawn is a singer/songwriter who mixes country, blues and rock – just perfect for an evening out.”
-Teresa Ferguson, Austin Music Minute, KUT
Shawn Nelson is an Americana singer/songwriter, who writes and performs for a mixed bag of devoted audiences. His music has threads of country, blues and rock. And his philosophy is simple – write lyrics with intent and back them with solid melodies. His latest CD, “Ain’t No Easy Way”, is genuine effort that reminds people the essence of excellent songwriting, straight forward arrangements, and great melodies. It includes contributions from LZ Love on vocals, Kris Brown on dobro and steel guitar, Joe Faulhaber on electric guitar and vocals, Trisha Keefer on fiddle, Jerome Kinkaid on piano and organ, PJ Herrington on bass and Nick Chambers on drums.
“This music just says come on in, grab a cold one, the BBQs over there. You can dance or sit down and tap your toes, we don’t care- just glad you’re here. Listening to this CD, I can imagine them in just about any honky tonk where the beer is cold and everyone is glad to be off work."
-Maria Mesa, Austin Daze Magazine
His first CD “Shawn Nelson and the Ramblers” was released in November 2004. The first release represents a band’s beginnings and though new songs have been written and performed since its release, a good number of the tunes have evolved into favorites for the band and their fans.
For their next release, the band decided to record a June 24th, 2005 performance at the legendary Antone’s in Austin. “Live at Antone’s” has honesty and the raw nature of capturing one single night of their music on a Friday night in June appeals most to the band and makes the record special for their fans as well.
“In Live at Antone’s, Nelson sings renditions of his best songs recorded live on June 24, 2005, at Antone’s, a classic Austin venue. It keeps audiences entertained with the styles that the band incorporates into its sound – anything from the traditional gospel of “Down By the Riverside” to the down-home, bluesy feel of “Troubadour.” Lyrics such as these promise comfort and relaxation despite the dreaded summer heat. The music of Shawn Nelson and the Ramblers is sure to appear at backyard barbecues, beer joints and Barton Springs, as Austinites enjoy themselves touring the summer.”
-Emily Watson, The Daily Texan
Beyond playing weekly shows in Austin, Shawn has been on tour as far west as Colorado and as far east as Mississippi. He has played at venues such as Antone’s in Austin, The Continental Club in Houston, Poor David’s Pub in Dallas and Chelsea’s in Baton Rouge.
Shawn plans a full performance schedule in support of “Ain’t No Easy Way” in venues anywhere and everywhere, to anyone and everyone.
