Another solid 7" from Florida. Both tracks are more similar to the b-side of their last 7". Dark and atmospheric tunes with bass vocals that I can't seem to get out of my head. The band shows a little more instrumental and vocal range on these two tracks as well. "Haunted House" showcases a backing brass instrument and some well-utilized whistles, and "Love Inside of You" plays more like a dream sequence with some competent guitar at the forefront and mind-numbing chimes behind it all. Comes out Christmas day on Shdwply.

VELVET DAVENPORT
"Get Out b/w Run" 7"
Pre-Order begins January 1st, 2010...
"Our previously loved psychedelic friends, Velvet Davenport have just sent over their newest slice of 60’s infused pop. On their recent LA vacay they met up with like minded nostalgists Ariel Pink and Gary War, the resulting “Get Out” is an acid flashback into a more liberal state of mind. This will be the a-side b/w of “Run” which is set for release as a 7″ on, the appropriate, Shdwply Records. Also, check out the free downloads that Velvet Davenport has available at their myspace..."

The Super Vacations
"001" LP (shdwply001)
"The Super Vacations make exploratory psychedelia without invoking many of the usual shorthand; no jams, no endless guitar solos, no purple loons. In their precise understanding of the deep structure and sonic sleight-of-hand of the best psychedelic music, their debut feels as fresh as any first generation cosmonauts"." - The Wire (U.K.)

"Hold My Gold" LP (shdwply009)
"... this Philly foursome would not be out of place if they were released on Merge back in 1992. With heavy guitars reminiscent of Carolina's early 90s output, think Superchunk or Polvo but maybe a whole lot drunker. Filtered through more modern fuzzes of punk and pop, the result is a sound that's catchy as hell..."

Gary War
"New Raytheonport" LP/CD (shdwply002 shdwply002CD)
It is amazing how far the outer boundaries psychedelic music have spread over the past forty three years. At this point, unless you're listening to something pretty lame, psychedelic music has burrowed itself in just about every corner of rock'n'roll music, from the raggedness of Roky Erickson back in the mid-60s to the meandering fuzz drone of the more contemporary acts like Wooden Shjips. When an act comes along such as Gary War that seems to conjure the ever-changing zeitgeist of psychedelia out of the ether, it's remarkable. His songs not only pay homage to the bands that have brought us to these crossroads over the past half of a decade, but they also seem to walk us through a sound scape of styles, and in the process, Gary War carved out his spot in the ageless catalog of psychedelic music.
Gary War, the mysterious upstart from Brooklyn, NY has just released his debut LP this winter on SHDWPLY Records. Playing with vast, sweeping echoes, softly sung lyrics, and infusing sonic textures through synth-driven overtures, Gary War's album, New Raytheonport takes us through the often banal sonics of the psychedelic form with a fresh take on what seems at first, an aggregate of the past couple of decades of drug-influenced music, and drops us dead center, at the doorstep to La La Land. His tonal insobriety, from one song to the next is a true sign of the times, where artists are driven to explore different avenues, melding genres, vocal styles and instrumentation to arrive somewhere new, all the while taking the listener along for the ride. Pulling from influences that hold as much up to Chrome as they do Syd Barret, Gary War is able to wrangle them from every corner, and he even covers The Alan Parsons Project without sounding misguided,or a late arriving hippie on a hotbox high. Instead, Gary War creates a sound that wisps through the knobby branches of the past and sumptuously uproots our notions of the boundaries of psychedelia.

Second Chants
Styles: nighttime-bedroom-epic-dream-pop-chants
When the world demands too much from us, our life-power is threatened and reduced in some way. One cigar-smoking thinker claimed that civilization would always make such demands. Another claimed that only certain forms of social organization do so, and that there are possible ways of organizing the world such that its demands and eros can be reconciled. Regardless of which view we think is correct, very few will deny that the demands of our world fosters some sort of soreness. Given this state of things, some people might allow the world’s demands to drive them into madness or misery. Others, however, perhaps the more heroic among us, might rush off to their bedrooms or basements, turn the room into a very low-budget recording studio, plug in some instruments and half-busted microphones, and lay down a record that offers us a glimpse into another world. It is the latter solution that brings us Second Chants.
Several musicians contributed to Second Chants, some of whom are already familiar names. Adam Langelloti plays on all of the tracks, and Gary War, Nick Brannigan, Paul Rosales, Jeff Morkeski, and Vile pop up in various places throughout the album. While all are inseparable from the album’s greatness, Robert Robinson is the songwriting brain behind it all. In the contemporary landscape, one is most tempted to draw a comparison with Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox, another home-recorder who has managed to construct marvelous worlds of sound and mood that are equally dark, alive, and pop-conscious while always challenging the limits of pop itself. Sore Eros is still a mysterious force, as Second Chants appears to be the first proper release, but something tells me that Robinson, like Cox, has the potential to be relentlessly, almost dangerously, prolific. The creative power bursting out of Second Chants is surely a sign that this force is not something that can be confined to even a healthy handful of LPs. This is only the beginning, and clearly one of the most impressive beginnings in quite a while.

"Icarus" 7" (shdwply010)
"Shdwply have the most authentic modern umbilical to the heart of 60s psych and this might well be one of their most plugged in blats yet. Could really do with an album from these guys but this hand-numbered edition of 300 7” complete with classy 3D glasses more than plugs the gap. Can’t stop spinning it. Highly recommended."

Thank you Shdwply for the connection. I admire your label hugely. Especially digging Sore Eros. I have sent a demo in as well for submission. Hope you receive it and like what you hear.
