   About Simon Heartfield

Simon's musical lineage stretches back to the late 80's as founder member of electro noise terrorists Twelve 88 Cartel (Bite Back!) and later bass player with John Peel Session faves the Psylons (Thunderbird).

By 1996 Simon was DJ'ing regularly at techno clubs like Geushky, Vurt and Defcon 1 as well performing live with Seatman Separator who have released six albums to date. He has also collaborated with Surefoot on their acclaimed "Rucksack EP" released on Brenda Russell's On Test label which appeared in the record boxes of such diverse DJ's as Dietrich Schoeneman, Joel Mull and Carl Cox.

Simon has also done a number of remixes for Bonemachine (Hackpen) including a co-remix with the legendary Sigue Sigue Sputnik. 2006 saw the release of Sublimate EP on Techment Records and a version of Udy's tech-rumbler Trundlewheel is out on Mixtape Records now (see Beatport player). The downtempo album Reconsequences is out now on In Deep Recordings and is available from Juno Download. Simon has also been active as a promoter and resident DJ for the Downtown, Phase 2 and Binary Nation nights in Portsmouth whose guests have included Dr Alex Paterson from the Orb and techno luminaries Billy Nasty, Darren Price, Umek, Aubrey, Fabio Paras, Luke Slater, Terry Mitchell, Colin Dale, Ian Void, Chris Finke, Mark Ambrose and the Liberator DJs.

The last studio album, Permanent Way was inspired by some of Simon's favourite artists and composers from his musical past from obscure electronica to punk and classical. It covers a cross section of genres from electro, house, breakbeat to techno and ambient.

"'CWC Haunting' from Simon Heartfield, a shimmering dance track, like an electronica Cocteau Twins" Emma Gould - Room Thirteen

"Pitched somewhere between Orbital and The Aphex Twin, Simon Heartfield makes dark atmospheric techno that manages to sound both like dystopian future nightmare and haunting dream." Mike Bond - UK Music Search

"With this sharp, stylish and dark collection of techno-house Simon Heartfield has produced a record to be proud of. With splintered confidence Permanent Way provides an atmospheric journey through backstreets, basements and bedsits. At times haunting, at others exhilarating, the listener is treated to a story of restlessness and resentment, told only through textured beats and buried samples." Alisdair R - Diskant

"Album opener ‘Kessler' is a perfectly crafted first track. It pushes all the right buttons and gets the heart beating fast and head nodding to the beat. ‘Sunset Silo' is a Bollywood tinged techno beat box, with a great sample from a blaxploitation film I can't quite put my finger on." Patrick Whyte - Heathen Angel

"Off Kilter Midnight comes complete with stripped down beats and a Depeche Mode melody which brings us nicely on to Turn The House Lights On. This house classic floats into your ears with a Four to the floor beat that is perfect for those who like it sexy and funky. Two minutes in and the darkness comes with a stabbing keyboard track that turns the song to granite. More of the same please!" Spencer Jacobs - Glasswerk

..

" Almost definitely a smooth Sunday chill-out, even when it touches on abrasive breakbeats, house and yes, a few relics from the artist's techno past, "Permanent Way" is a hynotic soundtrack for mornings spent the worse for wear. Amid the more obvious beats and breaks 'Kessler' and 'Off Kilter Midnight' are some surprising moments of beauty - for instance the shimmering, sample laden 'Fredericksburg', the newagey waterfalls and delicate melodies of which would soothe away the worst morning afters. ." Bubblegum Slut Fanzine

" Simon Heartfield has effectively managed to carve out an album that at times plays like a best of all things electronic from the last 10 years or so without ever descending to a level where its mere retreading or embarrassingly dated ." Sean - To Hell With.. Magazine

Permanent Way is available from www.amazon.co.uk ..
