It was started by one guy named Jim who used it as a moniker to raise a ruckus, and have some fun...
The Shedboyz started in the mid 90's. Most of the work that the 2 OB's (Original boyz) do in the real world, is outside of the state, involved in other aspects of the music, skate, and technology industries, but together and individually, we have produced some fun events over the years in PT...so hence, Shedboyz was born to promote the local shows that we promoted, or help with in one way or another, as well as support what rock/punk scene there was in the area.
Nowadays (June, 05), The Shedboyz is a forum to spotlight and support the efforts of the bands, fans, and people who like and promote "loud" music in Port Townsend. Over the years, these people have built a scene at various venues which entertains over 5000 fans a year at over a dozen shows in Port Townsend. We also report on the burgeoning scene in Port Angeles, especially at The Upside, where that venue has given PA a much needed regular all ages venue, and supports bands with the same passion we do.
Update to the Update - Dec, 08 Legion Hall or other shows being about as rare as a ferry that works, we have our AK-47 spinnin, and are here for a quick 08 update.
After not seeing his wife a single weekend for two years, Matt and the gang closed The Upside in 06. The largest venue that has all ages shows in Port Townsend holds about 40, and their probably is not a single band in the area that can draw more than 50 people. Most of the young people that put together the bigger shows and played in the bands featured on these pages have graduated and moved on to various parts. A ton are touring the world in bands both big and “small” or as tour managers and roadies. Some are continuing their education or moved on to the working world, but even those keep music and art as a valuable component in their life.
It’s a world where 8X more Guitar Hero controllers were sold this year than real guitars. Words that need to go away include Rock, Punk, Guitar Hero, Green, Rap, Rocktober, social networking, radio, A&R, label, Swag, Emo, Indie, all access, bailout, texting, VIP, backstage pass, vertical marketing, and Rad. Funk can stay as long as Prince is still alive and Tower of Power and George Clinton still tour.
We are all just humping the dead cold carcass of rock and roll, and have been since I walked into my first “hard rock” in 85 and heard….Madonna. But we also live for the moments when work and art can make memories that last a lifetime.
MOST of us like (and it's been this way for 10 years)...bands that rock, packed shows and fast food. MOST of us hate...Bands that don’t promote their shit, trust funders, people who think they are cool, but really are lame.
