   About Sheelanagig
"High octane stuff.........Would liven any party and keep the floor full..." fROOTS

"...a vitally energetic and full sound...brings the Yiddish Rude Boys out onto the dance floor..." The Living Tradition

Sheelanagig have been honing their eclectic blend of folk, jazz and world music since early 2005. Equally at home on festival stages, music venues and street corners the band have developed a devoted following with three album releases and a hectic touring schedule. Blistering live performances have made Sheelanagig festival favourites across the UK and into Europe, and caused dancefloor mayhem from the Scottish Islands to the South of Italy.

"Sheelanagig made several dazzling appearances…each time their set drew more people in, spellbound them with the beautiful arrangements and then hit the accelerator. The end result being a tent full of smiling and knackered festival goers." Larmer Tree Festival, 2006

"Sheelanagig have already made a reputation for themselves as an unmissable live act through an intensive year of gigging and festival appearances" The Living Tradition, 2006

"The five piece play with charming abandon, yet with accuracy, skill and professionalism... it is very easy to imagine the group being welcome on both folk and jazz stages" Musician, 2006

Last summer’s festival scene was well graced by Sheelanagig’s lively and clever blend of gypsy jazz, North African, Indian and Celtic folk” - Venue Magazine

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

Hello there the wonderful Sheelanigig.

The walking singing thing is afoot. And the friendly pretty website too. It is almost running as running it must.

If you'd like to look see, we'd love that. And if you'd like to upload a track, or some info, about you lot and your storming music, that would likewise be grand. We've had an email from someone saying they brought a CD because we recommended it, which was a thrill.

the site is at: www.awalkaroundbritain.com

It's trying to document the folklore, history, songs, tales, people, and good things of this land that we find on foot.

Well, blurble done. All the best to you, and please keep playing that marvellous music.

Good strong spring unfurling unto you all.

Ed Will Ginger.
