About me:

AUTHOR'S BIOGRAPHY

Born and raised in Salt Lake, Josi gave up college to become married, barefoot and pregnant-- in that order. Three kids, a mortgage, and six years later, she found refuge from the dishes and diapers in writing.
Her first LDS women's novel was published in 2000 and since then she's added one more child and five more books, all of them centered on a contemporary theme and told from an LDS perspective.
Sheep's Clothing is her latest book and will be released May 2 2007.

Who I'd like to meet:

BACKLINER OF SHEEP'S_CLOTHING

***

Six children keep Kate and Brad Thompson busy all day, every day. Between work, school, and church activities there isn’t much time for anything else. Having baby number seven might disrupt the family routine, but Kate isn’t worried about that. She is worried, however, about her oldest daughter, Jess, who has been more secretive of late. More distant. Kate’s hopes it’s just a phase. Fifteen is a tricky age, after all.
For Jess, being fifteen isn’t just tricky, sometimes it feels downright impossible. Between baby-sitting all the time, hating the gymnastics class Mom won’t let her quit, and trying to hold onto her best friend now that high school is pulling them in different directions, Jess feels totally overwhelmed, continually misunderstood, and completely alone. Until she meets Emily online. Emily listens, understands, and gives Jess confidence. Best of all, Emily introduces Jess to her cousin, Colt. Jess can’t date yet, but she and Colt can send long, personal e-mails to each other and he understands her better than anyone else in her life.
However, when Jess disappears it only takes one e-mail for everyone in the Thompson family to discover that when it comes to the Internet, things aren’t always what they seem. . . .

WHAT INSPIRED SHEEP'S_CLOTHING?

I'm always looking for story ideas in the media, and in spring of 2006, Internet concerns were making the news almost every night. In addition, Datelines "To Catch a Predator" series had brought a great deal of awareness to this issue. I have four children myself and like most parents, I look at them and think "I've taught them right, they know better than toshare personal information online." Yet have I?
Every teenager feels misunderstood-- every adult for that matter--, but teenagers have the added issue of feeling invinceble. Every teenager is looking for a friend, and too many adults are looking for that kind of teenager. My husband suggested I use Internet Preditors as the topic in my next book, we brainstormed story lines, and Sheep's_Clothing was the result.

Yeah, it was so fun seeing you. I talked to Scott about coming up to visit you guys and he was into it so we have to set something up! As for my book...I was working on one- as you know, but it turns out that it sucks so I'm starting something new that will come much easier to me (like The First Year did). When I get a minute I'll email you more about the idea because it is AWESOME!

While waiting for this one, I bought Earning Eternity (we had it in stock at work). WOW! I can almost picture it as a movie, and I think it would do great!

I know- I made it all the way to number 11!!!

I'm on Chapter 4 of Sheep's_Clothing and I LOVE it! I especially enjoy getting inside Jess' head. You've done such a good job of showing what a time of turmoil that age is! I'm getting nervous, though, about the creepy predator guy. He's so sneaky!!!

Yes our store has a small section of LDS books, between all the new age and the bibles. (I'm not sure what they were thinking when they did the layout!) My town is actually in more than one stake (and mission, come to think of it), so the need is there.
