Formed in 1996 by cult figure Nick Bard, Shekere are quite simply the finest white West-African drumming band in the south-east. Under the precise, percussive, pertinent and patient care of Hans Sutton they have blossomed into a formidable percussion unit of incomparable appeal. Playing Malinke rhythms at breakneck pace they have astonished audiences from Hastings to Edinburgh and beyond. They are stonking, stupendous and unstoppable.
Bouncy, upbeat tunes that stick in your brain and make you want to dance, leaving girls with a post-coital glow, and boys with pre-coital urges. All played live by our 7-piece band. From the libraries of Cambridge to the souks of Syria, and many places not in between, these tunes and rhythms have been a long time brewing, and they are finally about to burst into the real world, next Tuesday in Hoxton.
