Middle Eastern/Indian, trance-ambient, electronica, classic rock, funk, blues, jazz, r&b, metal, gothic, classical, medieval, folk, 80's pop music, bluegrass, and classic country. To name a few.
Movies
Everything from Harry Potter and Sleepy Hollow to The Quick and The Dead and Desperado. I like action-adventure, historical fiction, romance, scifi, and various genres. Oh and I do like some of the the current Disney/Pixar features: Incredibles, Ratatouille, etc.
Television
The Sopranos, TAPS Ghost Hunters, and reruns of Charmed. Occasionally Oprah, and reality TV such as Flip This House or Celebrity Fit Club (yikes!). Otherwise it's the History Channel or Discovery Channel or movies on TBS. I don't watch a whole lot of TV, but I do keep tuned in to popular culture when I need a fix!
Books
Probably going on 1,000 books in my library now... if I had to pick one author, Anne Rice was always one of my favorites. I have all of her works. Otherwise I read whatever I can get my hands on that relates to history, mythology, alternative spirituality, natural medicine, and various other subjects.
Heroes
Strong, independent, creative people from all walks of life.
About me: Greetings!
I have been dancing all of my life, and have been a semi-professional Bellydancer since the turn of the new millennium. My Bellydance style is a blend of exotic elements that I like to call "Gypsy Fusion", which means everything from tassels to sequins is fair game in what I do. The styles I favor originate in American Cabaret Bellydance, but also in Spanish Flamenco, Indian dance, Tribal Fusion bellydance, Turkish Rom or Gypsy dance, a little bit of Old Broadway Burlesque, and a dollop of MTV hiphop added for good measure. I am also experimenting with the dark, dramatic look and ambience of a new genre called Gothic Bellydance. So many styles, so little time ~ stay tuned for changes as they develop!
My dance performance venues have included colleges, castles, nightclubs, Renaissance faires, and even a special guest performance with the classic rock band Jethro Tull. I was the house gypsy dancer for Pastimes Interactive Theater at Hammond Castle in Gloucester, MA for 5 years. My dance specialty is sword balancing, and I also play percussion ~ finger cymbals, tambourine, hand drums, a tuppan, and a variety of other noisy things. In the summer of 2007 I began dancing and playing percussion for a Medieval folk-rock-fusion band called Diabolis In Musica, and I continue to work with Diabolis at Renaissance faires and other themed events throughout the area. The Diabolis show is loud, fun, and full of surprises ~ so check us out next time you're in New England!
Below is a video of me doing a solo choreography at a recent Bellydance party or "hafla" in Central Massachusetts. I am dancing to a techno-fusion piece called "Hypnotique", in the Tribaret style ~ a fusion of Tribal and Cabaret. Enjoy... and if you like what you see, feel free to drop me a comment or an email.
