Why Hello there! You have arrived at the MySpace page of the one and only Shelby Taylor Stephyns! Miss Shelby was born in a garage in York, Pa. York is the home to one of the largest Harley-Davidson plants, The Oldest Continuous County Fair and Hanover Foods. Just like the cat, curiosity got the best of her one night while all her friends where getting "gussied up". She got her (much older) sister, Jamayka Stephyns to slap some makeup on her and "Voila," Shelby was born. After that, nothing could stop her on her meteoric ride to the middle. She came in 1st Runner-up at the first drag contest she competed in, winning onstage question. She thought she would kick and claw her way higher in the drag world when a job offer in Washington, DC came a calling and took her to the nation's capitol. Realizing that trying to be a little drag queen in a big pond, she was just about to donate her size 13 heals to the Salvation Army when she realized that she could do more then just being fabulous. (Hey look... this is my fairy tale... I tell it how I want to.) She said to herself (since really no one else listened anyway....) "What can I do for the greater community? With all my pizazz and talent and immense humbleness I should do something in this city." In September 2007, she joined one of the oldest and most respected drag organizations in the United States... The Academy of Washington, Inc. The first time she stood on that stage and announced she was "Everybody's Girl", Shelby Taylor Stephyns realized she had found her place in the world of sparkles, beads and sequins. As of this writing she has been truly blessed with the honor of being named Miss Capricorn 2008, Beekman Place's Gayest Drag Queen 2007, Beekman Place's Baby Girl 2007, Drag Newcomer of the Year 2007 & now Miss Black & White Debutante. On a more serious note, Shelby feel that since joining The Academy of Washington and working for the United States Congress she has become a stronger person politically and socially. She knows that there are thousands of injustices out in the world and we must face each and every one of them with the same dignity we face our own challenges in life. The community in Washington, DC is very large and together we can and will make a difference. Shelby knows that she is one person, but that sometimes one person is all it takes. Live Brave!
