She Mob is a female operated and controlled machine whose 1999 debut album Cancel the Wedding garnered critical praise from Greil Marcus and Robert Christgau. The band is a bunch of 40-somethings that came of age in the early punk era, inspired by Rough Trade girl punk bands like Delta 5, Lilliput and Essential Logic. She Mob has been called a chick Ween, with an iconoclastic mix of real-life stories and dream-inspired multi-genre songs that alternately screech, rock, haunt, amuse and confound.
She Mob's third CD, Not In My World throws down the gauntlet with expressionistic songs about rage, ambiguity, Botox, cows, fairies, death, dismemberment, bad coffee, wet kittens, stains, contempt, insecurity, expired cough syrup and the Royal Tenenbaums. Chuck Eddy of THE VILLAGE VOICE says of the album in his Eddytor's Dozen column, "Of the newer records below, the longest and noisiest and artsiest, by the lady-led Oakland trio She Mob, is also the catchiest and funniest. How often does that happen?"
