London based Disco artist Shèna is a fresh and feisty talent emerging from the shadows to introduce the disco sound to a new generation of dancers. Blending soulful vocals and exquisite production with real instruments and old school sass, Shèna is on a mission to bring love and the good groove back to the dance floor.
From the moment Shèna’s teacher told her mum that the best she could hope for was to be a secretary, Shèna’s main goal in life was to prove him wrong and boy, has she done just that.
When considering many of history’s great female singers, Shèna’s Gospel routes are hardly an original source of inspiration, but when those routes involved working on a show named ‘Mama I Want To Sing’ and gaining a hug from a certain Mr Stevie Wonder, it must be said that very few experiences could exceed that for a soulfully stimulating beginning to a very illustrious career…
Shèna has worked as a central vocalist for artists such as James Brown, Chaka Kahn, Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse and has also featured as the featured vocalist on many massive dance and pop records, providing powerful vocals for songs including the no 1 smash ‘Weekend’ by Michael Gray and ‘Dare Me’ by Junior Jack.
Now in 2009, Shèna has produced some breath taking solo work with the release of three incredibly well produced and received singles and is currently working on her debut album, a project that will introduce a new sound that dices together big, bold and classic orchestral disco with raw and edgy breaks, beats and lyrics.
As fate has it, Shèna’s emergence as the UK’s premiere nu-disco artist has coincided with a newly ignited interest in the genre that started everything we know as dance music today. With more and more of the coolest parties in London playing new remixes of classic and underground disco and with several high profile collaborations on the horizon and some red hot new material, it seems Shè̀na’s reign has just begun…
