The SNO Ball brings the community and neighbors together for a fun filled evening of entertainment and conversation.
SNO Ball 2007 is a fund-raiser to benefit Sheridan Neighborhood Park and Veterans Memorial.
A group of World War II veterans from Northeast have been working for over a decade to create a veterans memorial in the area. Since Sheridan is the only neighborhood in Minneapolis without a park, we saw an opportunity to combine our effort.
A working group was created that brought together SNO, the Veterans, City and Park Board Officials, MWMO and AFCAC. The U of M Design Center did an amazing job of making the conceptual design that meets the needs of all the participants.
The proposed park and memorial will be located on an undeveloped strip of land west of the Grain Belt Brewery on 13th Avenue and the Mississippi River.
The Sheridan Memorial Park will offer the promise of hope while recognizing the sacrifice and service of our soldiers. The memorial features a circle of trees with a reflecting pool in the middle and peace gardens surrounding it. Markers will depict each war in which US Soldiers have fought. There will also be a connected overlook about the river.
The park is designed to have community spaces with walking and biking paths that will connect with trails to Boom Island and the 18th Avenue Bikeway. Other amenities include a playground, a picnic area and rest rooms.
With this Ball we begin the efforts to raise money to make this Park and Memorial a reality. We need your help. We are half way there and all donations help bring this vision closer.
