I like visual art like graphic design, painting, drawing, sketching, and photography.
I do a bit of drawing myself, but nothing professional quality or anything. You can see the stuff that I draw here on my account on deviantArt.
However, I suppose while I do have a tiny bit of unexplored skill, my lack of inspiration leads me to become more of a jealous spectator who throws an envious eye on the works of others, rather than making my own. It’s a bit of a fault of mine that I really should conquer one day.
Writing
I can certainly appreciation the fine craft of wordsmithing for prose. (I apologize for I never was quite a poetry person. And the endless digging for some abstract meaning that only the author could ever know just drives me mad.) However, I am regrettably not that much of an avid reader—despite what my mother would like you to believe. However, I really do enjoy things that are well written, especially since it is such a task to navigate this difficult language of English. And to see others do it with the skill and creativity that I lack, is such a beautiful thing to witness.
However, despite my somewhat good proficiency for the English language, I, myself, could never venture into some sort of major or career for this other than a temporary stint as an ESL teacher. However, that would only be for an excuse to go and live abroad some more. Which leads me too…
Travel
If you know me, then you should know that I love to travel. It’s not exactly such a good thing that a broke girl like me should be interested in. Nevertheless, in addition to scattered cities up and down the Eastern half of the United States, I have managed to go to Trinidad to visit relatives, Costa Rica for a church missions trip, St. Croix of the U.S. Virgin Islands to visit more family, and England for a leadership camp. However those trips only managed to awaken a desire for even more travel and exploration of this world. So for now, Brazil is just the starting point. I plan on going to all the continents (yes, even Antartica). Furthermore, if I can, I want a perspective deeper than an average tourist. I want to feel these places I’m going to. Play the part of the local enjoying a drink at a quaint restaurant (at least until they realize that I don’t understand a word of what they’re saying). Yet, at the same time, I want the pride of making the inside of my passport so colorful with visas and stamps, as I parade through the airports with skill and perhaps a bit of egotism as go through the drill of filling out custom forms in foreign languages and navigating my way to where I’ll be sleeping with skill.
I fully intend to travel more when I return—while I’m in AND while I’m out of college. Don’t be surprised if you find out that I am teaching English in Japan, or serving with the Peace Corp in East Timor, backpacking through Europe, camping out on someone’s couch in Argentina, or doing an internship studying the developing economy of Lesotho.
I have no interest in staying put.
Music
As for movies, the only ones I can really bear to watch repeatedly for fun is Mulan from Disney, and Chicago (but really for an excuse to sing with it).

Television
Television: And TV, I really don’t watch much TV. It was always such a hassle to keep up with, so I just didn’t bother, and so I never got back into it much. However, every once in a while, I’ll flip to the Style Network, Discovery Channel, Bravo, or watch some shows like CSI, Law and Order, or Ugly Betty. As a matter of fact, Ugly Betty is probably my favorite American show.
Dorama (Asian Drama): I say Ugly Betty is my favorite “American” show because I happen to be a fan of doramas aka (Asian Dramas, or J-Dorama, or K-Dorama, etc.). You may be wondering at this point, what the heck is a black girl doing watching Asian soap operas?! To which I answer, mind your business! I kid, I kid! But in all honesty, I have always had an interest in Asian cultures for whatever reason, and I was determined to study abroad in Japan (my plans have evidentially changed a bit since then). I was going to be one of those ever so rare black chicks in Japan, and I wasn’t even going to be a military brat! This happened when I discovered anime (Japanese cartoons with the really big eyes) so I got a bit obsessed, however, the interest faded a bit, however, I maintain a lingering wish to go to Japan. However, in the midst of all of this I found an appreciation for Asian cultures.
And so doramas sort of keep that alive for me. Also, it is helpful, since I am not very good at listening comprehension, however, I can read and follow shows very good. And all of those shows are in subtitles anyway, so it’s perfect for me!
Books
Contrary to popular belief, I honestly don’t read that much. I am not proud of it, but I just don’t. Keeping focus is difficult. However, books that I have read and enjoyed include the Harry Potter series, and the play A Raisin in the Sun.
Heroes

My name is Sherise Alexis. I am 18 years old, and I live in Miami. I am a high school graduate of Northwest Christian Academy and now I am going to be an exchange student in Brazil in Salvador, Bahia. I leave on August 8, 2008 and I will be there for a year attending school, learning a new language the good old-fashioned way of just being thrown into it, and living with some bona fide Brazilian families.
Why?
Because I want to. I always seem to always have to do something weird, and this is no exception. Besides, I was never one for predictability. Therefore, here I am on my way to Brazil for a year with no credits instead of off to some university like everyone expected.
But don’t worry! I’ll be back. I fully intend to further my education. I might be going to Florida International University when I return, but I am not sure yet.
I like intelligent and humorous people. I love to laugh and joke. So if you’re too serious, then we won’t get along too well, since I’m not that good at being serious for extended periods of time, unless I’m putting on an act or slipping in an inside joke that VERY few will notice.
I’m a weird person, but you’ll get used to it and learn to love it, otherwise, just run away now while you have the chance.
