Wednesday, October 14, at 7:00 PM (PDT) your hosts Christene and Melissa brought you another fiercely independent edition of Feminist Magazine.
We had a conversation about October 22 Coalition 14th Annual National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression, and the Criminalization of a Generation with DJ Tiah Star, and Kelly Flor both organizers of October 22 coalition. Also, we were honored to be joined by Mrs Rivera, and Antonia Rivera, mother and sister respectively of 17 yrs old Carlos Rivera, killed by the LAPD May 17, 2008.
And, meet young feminist blogger Julie Z., creator of Fbomb blog. The FBomb.org is a blog/community created for teenage girls who care about their rights as women and want to be heard. The FBomb.org is loud, proud, sarcastic…everything many teenage feminists are today.
But, first six domestic violence shelters in California have been forced to close while dozens more are scaling back services after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger eliminated 100 percent of all state funding for domestic violence programs/shelters. Joining us as part of October’s Domestic Violence Awareness and to discuss the affects of these outrageous cuts was TuLynn Smylie executive director of WomenShelter of Long Beach , an organization committed to helping end the cycle of domestic violence through education, intervention and prevention.
That was all Wednesday, October 14, 7:00 PM (PDT), on Feminist Magazine heard at KPFK, 90.7 FM, Los Angeles, 98.7 FM, Santa Barbara, and streaming live and archived at kpfk.org.
Emergency Response To Oso Blanco's Horrible Treatment
Oso Blanco is an indigenous (Wolf Clan Cherokee/Choctaw) political prisoner currently serving 80 years for expropriating money from banks and sending the funds to the Zapatistas to fund their campaign and feed children. He escaped on December 21 2000 to spread awareness on the conditions of political prisoners through call ins at a radio show, since he has been recaptured and has been subjected to even worse treatment.
We are going be having a call in day/week of letter writing in response to Oso's treatment which has so far included beatings, gassing, transfer with the intent of having him murdered by hostile inmates, lockdowns, write ups, heat exhaustion, added time (6 months for hanging a towel as to avoid mold), forecfully cutting the circulation to areas of his body over periods of time, mail tampering, and being denied medical treatment among other things. I have already sent out a message to Oso informing him that I am mobilizing support for this action. I need the o.k. from Oso but if no correspondance is received by Monday, October 5, 2009 we will begin the action. Please inform everyone you know that is interested in supporting Oso Blanco against torture, and let's be absolutely ready to call in. If we get word sooner I'll let everyone know, if not the day is again October 5th, 2009. Spread the word! Please be ready to help with calls and letter writing as well!
Our family recently suffered a devastating loss. However we understand the cycles life and for now all we can do is honor and REPLICATE the example of life that our Brother left behind as his legacy. The loss of our Brother Lalo and his beautiful daughter was felt all through out the hemisphere without a doubt. He stood for unity and Strictly Movement; and by his actions uplifted the warrior spirit of his family, comrades and Nation on a daily basis... The following painting is being auctioned throughout the months of September and October and all proceeds will be donated to the Angulo family. Let's show our brother's family solidarity and make an effort to lend them a helping hand in these hard times. Let's come together and follow his example. -UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN IN MICTLAN, WE'LL MISS YOU BOTH- ----STRICTLY MOVEMENT!!----- Common.Unity.Aztlan

Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for all the effort and progress made in spreading your peaceful resistance. The perseverance you have shown is inspiring and your story should be heard by all I really don't think I've ever seen someone handle the drums quite so well and make it look simply effortless. Your drumming is brilliant and very uplifting. Great work. Your playing is as powerful as your message.
