December of 2006 was a powerful time for She Screams Remedy; it was a period where the ideas of three close friends would blend together to form a new type of group, bolstering an evolved rock music sound. The band was birthed in the trenches of Southern California; emerging into the community's already active music lore. The influences for their intense sound reach beyond musical inspirations alone; in fact, the band seeks to draw energy from all sources of passion in their lives. This rare method of “living” the music produces a multi-faceted quality with a consistently surprising mood, one in which new ideas are frequent. But the history of their musical activity begins even earlier than this; prior to the group's convergence, each of the members were involved in separate projects, looking to outlet their individual talents while simultaneously keeping pace with the music world. Trevor Koch (Guitarist, Vocalist) experimented with editing and producing works from various artists, Nadeem Haddad (Drummer) was performing on stage with several up and coming bands, and Tim Berman (Guitarist) was writing songs and developing a unique playing style all his own. Bringing the bunch together provided the perfect harmony, both in and out of the studio. However it wouldn't be until early 2008 that the group would discover its current front-woman, Kyrsten Gammon. Her spirited and fresh approach to music-making fit perfectly inside She Screams Remedy’s dynamic methods. With Kyrsten as the final element, the four members began working together in preparation for the band’s first major project.
Around February of 2008, the band was wholly invested in the task of creating their first album. “Some ideas work and some ideas you just have to filter out,” says Trevor, “but my main focus for this album is finding a way to get an audience interested in hearing the music and really enjoying it”. Although several songs are finished and ready to be put on the E.P, the band isn’t interested in rushing the release. “Juggling everything at once can be difficult and has a tendency to drag things out, but it’s important for us that we don’t throw anything down until we’re satisfied”, says Timothy.
Grinding out a record isn’t the only thought on the minds of these four young artists, the process has also given the group an opportunity to continue sharing their experiences. In Kyrsten’s words, “These guys are all childhood friends; they are so comfortable around each other that you can’t help but feel comfortable around them, not to mention the craziness!” In-between writing and recording songs, the band has been posting videos, blogs, and bulletins about their everyday adventures and activities. “Being a community is how we have always done it; the best part about the music is the relationships you make with the people around you, and this gives us a chance to build those relationships, anywhere and everywhere”, says Nadeem.
She Screams Remedy is certainly excited for the road ahead, and 2008 is guaranteed to open a new and unpredictable chapter for the band. They’re due to release their debut lengthy E.P. sometime around the end of summer.
