Influences
As we live in a fairly remote area, we thought we'd show you our little corner of the world!
Sounds Like
african rhythms on djembe and djun-djuns with bells and shakers! Afro-cuban beats with congas and sticks and a bit of singing too!

Our African Drumming group started out as just a weekly nightclass, then when we were asked to do a little stint at Shetland Folk Festival 2006, we quickly got our group a name and discovered we loved performing! we're really just a bunch of people who love drumming. Aesttaewast is Shetland dialect (east to west) as our members live all over Shetland and we all come together to meet and practice. We've played around Shetland a couple of times and on BBC Radio Shetland, and this year we're very fortunate to have been invited back to be part of the Shetland Folk Festival. So Aesttaewast is mostly about meeting and drumming and learning, because we enjoy it! It's our passion!!!!

I'm out in August for fiddle frenzy but as ive some spare time before & after I'll have to get in touch with you and see if someone can give me a bit of a lesson to pass onto them & anyone else here who is interested.
