One of the rarest qualities a singer can have is the power to touch an audience's deepest emotions. On her debut record, "The Closest Thing" (UE3/Sony Red/Fusion3) and in her stunning live shows, listeners experience a visceral reaction to her music. "More than anything, I want people to be moved by my music. If I can touch just one person emotionally, then I feel I've done what I was supposed to do".
Sheva's debut record is produced by critically-acclaimed Canadian producer Dale Penner (Holly McNarland, Nickelback, Matthew Good Band). Her collection of original songs, with their fluid stream of confessional lyrics and lilting melodies, allow her rich vocals to flow through poignant musical peaks and valleys. From the self-actualized revelations of "Song for Myself" to the plaintive "Runaway," Sheva exquisitely achieves a fine balance between pathos and hope. Penner strives for simplicity in the arrangements, sometimes featuring only piano and guitar accompaniment to support Sheva's breathtaking voice before veering into more rocked-out musical beds. Recorded in Vancouver and Halifax, the record has a cast of top-notch musicians, including New York's Jimmy Landry (guitar, bass, programming, co-writer), Vancouver's Don Powrie (drums), Bill Buckingham (strings), and Los Angeles' Barry Coffing (strings/keys).
Over the past two years, Sheva has toured extensively throughout the United States and Canada, sang the National Anthem for two NHL games in Atlanta, Georgia, and has developed a unique market performing in the Chapters/Indigo (Canada) and Borders Books and Music (U.S.) chains. Her live performances have earned her rave reviews, many people remarking how her voice captivated them from the very first note.
"My song are very dramatic. They aren't your typical pop songs, yet they're mainstream with a hint of theatrical and classical elements". Sheva says, drawing from her influence and background in classical music. "Classical music is what I grew up on. It's what I was trained in and it's what I know. When I write, I draw from those influences. It definitely brings a unique and simplistic quality to my songs. When I listen to a song, I listen to the melody. It doesn't matter what the genre is, if it has a great melody, then it will be memorable. That's something I try to do when I'm writing."
With a dynamic and pure voice, whether she is performing solo or with her full band, one thing's for certain, that Sheva is destined for big things. Her enormous talent and emotionally powerful performances will continue to reach into people' hearts and move them profoundly.
NP- you do an amazing job at writing songs that I can really relate to and stir up such emotion..you need more exposure somehow lol cause you are way too talented to not be more well known across the globe..honestly. I think this new song definitely helps, I can't stop playing it :)
Thanks for the add, I love your music btw!
