Terry Gayhart is one of the founding members whose expertise is well
rounded in guitar, bass and vocals. The joy that he puts into his
voice and fingers is apparent. His writing ability is the foundation
upon which the band depends. The voice of his guitar is recognizable
immediately. It flows from him naturally. His patience and experience
is priceless. Some of his influences include Tommy Boland, Joe Walsh,
Jimmy Paige and Robin Trower. His flexibility in this trio is essential.
Keith
Myers has a smoky voice that is full of emotion. To help convey
the mood of each piece, his tone changes from smooth to full bore madness,
the guitar follows suit. His niche is writing hooks and groves with
the other members. With
Terry, he belts out two part harmonies that are on the mark. His
muses include Jimi Hendrix, Eric Claption and Jimmy Paige. Keith is
also one of the founding members of this group and is content to see
how this seed has grown into an out of control raging weed in the
garden of the status quo.
Rick
Boltz came to Shift Seven with with serious
skills and dedication to the song. He doesn't just
keep time, he plays the song like he is singing
with his sticks. In the studio he is a one-take
monster and the main reason Shift Seven was able
to name the new CD "1.5
Days". That is all the time it took to lay down
the tracks. He maps out the soundtrack in his head
flawlessly. Every part he writes compliments the
changing platform for the rest of the band. Rick's
lyrics, melody ideas and insight build
song blueprints well above the role of the traditional
percussionist. His chops are reminiscent of Ginger
Baker, Mitch Mitchell and John Bonham
Influences
As a band we try to create songs that feel right to us and make our tunes accessible to everyone. We are influence by many very different styles. This makes our catalog of songs very eclectic. Kind of a rock -funk -progressive -blues -type -thing.

"We just completed a studio project at Saturation Acres. Bret Alexander of the Badlees recorded and mixed the disk. We recorded 14 tunes in 1 1/2 days! We had a blast, very laid-back atmosphere. Bret also was gracious enough to play B3 organ on two tracks. If you are interested in a disk, click the link above."
Shift
Seven is a tight power rock trio
from Central PA. Rising above the new muck of music that has no hook
or feeling, they invoke the sprits of the past to present a new genre
of songs that make sense and satisfy their growing audience. They
have been together in one form or another for more than a decade. The
constant has been Terry Gayhart and Keith Myers. When Rich Boltz took
over the percussion section, the band really gelled and the new studio
release is testament to the magic of finding the right collaborators.
The sound is blues rock based in the vein of Black Crows, Led Zepplin
and Hendrix or as one review said, "Acid Fried Funkabilly Blues Rock"...
One unique thing about Shift Seven is how the sound and song writing
changes with each tune due to the habit of Terry and Keith sharing
the guitar, bass and lead vocal duties. All three have their own take
on song writing. It's like having four bands in one. It's like the
Beatles... without the screaming girls... or gobs of money and fame..
or British accent... and with one less member. It's all ROCK but with
many, many sub-genres. The guys go where ever the song takes them and
it all sounds like the inside of their heads.
