[COULD THIS BE LOVE]:
This is ShiLi's self composed duet. The music in this version is arranged by Adi Rakhmadian, who also sung the male vocals.
[CHAIN OF FOOLS/RESPECT]:
This live recording was a featured song in NUS Jazzband's Soul Remedy 2008. The medley was originally arranged by The Freeloaders during their participation in the Hollies Band Competition and later added with Iskandar Ismail's wonderful horn arrangement for the concert. Featured in the band are Lin Hanrong(drums), Moses Han (guitars/backup), Adrian Cheong (Bass/backup), Kim Eun Taek (keys), Eng Kwang, Jacob & Lisa(Sax), Daniel (Trumpet) and Fione & Pat (backups) in the band.
Apart from being the non-typical engineering grad, ShiLi considers herself a Top 40s gigging vocalist who loves all kinds of music from jazz to funk and rock. Her biggest influences stem from Steven Tyler, Aretha Franklin, Sheryl Crow, and Alicia Keys to name a few. In her spare time, she also records jingles for various tv advertisements.
ShiLi developed her love for pop rock music in her early university days. Her initial stage fright was overcome after taking part in multiple local band and songwriting competitions including Talent Quest Band Finals 2008 in Zouk in which her band, The Freeloaders, eventually won. ShiLi enjoy fronting the band with her power vocals.
Her active involvement in hall developed her interest in songwriting, where her first song Could This Be Love won the Talent Quest 2007 Songwriting category with her now regular gigging partner and friend, Adi.
Not limiting herself to any particular genre, ShiLi was also a prominent vocalist of her batch in the NUS Jazzband under the tutelage of John Lee (music director/entertainer/vocalist of Vocaluptuous) and Iskandar Ismail where her love for jazz and soul was honed.
The following video is her rendition of the Aretha Franklin's medley of Chain of Fools & R-E-S-P-E-C-T with the jazzband in Soul Remedy held in March 2008.
The Aretha Medley
Other than performing with the big band, ShiLi also performs in simple acoustic set ups for lighthearted events such as weddings, and in various watering holes across the island from Reddot Brewhouse and Paulaner Brauhaus to Acid Bar. Here are some of the acoustic videos with her band members:
