Shilombish is a four-piece Native American flute musical ensemble that emanated from the Indiana Flute Circle - a society of members that collect, play, construct and promote the Native American flute. Our music is a mixture of textural sound improvisation, composed chordal progressions and spontaneous harmonic counterpoint played over a layer of percussion and other sounds. We also incorporate natural sounds and many other instruments into our music including acoustic guitar, udu, didgeridoo, shakuhachi, piano (sometimes) and various percussion instruments.
Our Native American flute collections span a wide range of keys and woods and are constructed by contemporary and legendary flute makers from all over the world. The average number of flutes among the four of us at any given performance could number as many as 50 instruments or more.
Most of our music is made up on the spot - completely improvised. We play flutes ranging from sub-bass Em pentatonic and span 3 octaves in almost all keys. We run our sub-bass flutes through an octaver and achieve sub-bass sounds 2 octaves below the sub-bass note. This is used rhythmically and has quite a punch - you can feel it in your bones. Along with percussion, the groove we sometimes achieve can uplift your spirit.

Every time that we listen & write music... play an instrument... sing & dance... act in a play... or work in some audio/image/video engineering process... something is healing inside...
When we share it with friends... something is healing all over...
