“Heart of Bamboo”

Greetings! Thank you for visiting! I make primarily jinashi nobekan (one piece) shakuhachi. I will be displaying here all the jinashi shakuhachi I have made which are for sale. I have personally harvested all the bamboo myself from Kyushu and Nagano, Japan. I am also a professional shakuhachi player and have a Shihan license from Katsuya Yokoyama sensei and a Daishihan title from Yoshinobu Taniguchi sensei. The relationship between a good flute and the playing ability of the maker is close. So please be aware of this when shopping for a shakuhachi.

Shindake is the name my Zen master gave to me which means "heart/mind of bamboo". In the Madarin language it is "Shinxou". Fitting for me as I am a shakuhachi player. It is also the ambient electro-acoustic music project that I am undertaking that utilizes mainly the sounds of the shakuhachi in various morphed sonic textures and rhythms utilizing electronic and digital sound processors. Shindake can also be one of the three secret treasures of Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu (Ninja) "School of the Hiding Door"; a bamboo tube around 4 feet long, used as an underwater breathing tube and a blowgun.

Auditioning flutes

Let me know if you would like to audition a flute. No prepayment is required for Canadian customers, but the prospective buyer is responsible for taking perfect care of the instrument during auditioning. All damages incurred during the auditioning are the responsiblity of the prospective buyer. Each shakuhachi is sent out by insured UPS. Each flute is allowed a maximum of 1 week before purchasing or return. Each return must be fully insured.

Customers outside of Canada are required a prepayment (in US dollars) before flutes are sent out for auditioning. Shipping/customs cost both ways are the responsibility of the auditioner. A full refund (minus any shipping, customs or bank transfer charges) will be made to the customer if the flutes are returned in good condition. Payment can be made by personal cheque (made payable to Alcvin Ramos), or bank transfer.

I try to give as much time as necessary for the buyer to choose a flute, so once a purchase is made, the sale is final. There are no warranties attached to any sale. The tuning and appearance of the flute are 'as is'. The buyer, not the vendor or the maker, is responsible for the good condition of their shakuhachi at any time during audition or after purchase.

To all other countries actual postage will be charged. I ship via Parcel Post or Priority Mail. Postage to foreign countries varies greatly depending whether shipment is made via Sea or Air Parcel Post and according to the weight of the shipment.
