On November 11th 2005 Shine at the Shelborne Beach Resort in South Beach opened. Shine features 3 unique environments including the grand lobby lounge, the three-tiered ballroom known as club Shine, and the poolside retreat and bar.
The multi-million dollar face-lift of the Shelborne Beach Resort hosts the complete entertainment experience. The lobby bar and The Lounge captures the essence of what South Beach is about. The Starlight Ballroom AKA club SHINE features a Steve Dash custom designed sound and lighting system that rivals the sound of any club in Miami and around world. Musically the venue is open for special events and corporate parties and banquets offering something for everyone.
The Lobby Lounge features international music, from ambient to jazz, including reggae, house, hip-hop, 80s retro, International chill-out based Mash Up format. The poolside has Reggae, ambient chill-out music, and some retro 80s by day or by night the sounds from club SHINE at a conversation level. We want our music format to be open but most of all, based on fun, or relaxing depending on where you are. Most important something everyone can enjoy.
The Shelborne Staff also prides themselves and has received many international accolades for their production and events featuring everything from art exhibits, live fashion shows and the occasional Pool Party which has hosted some of the hottest talent on the planet, from Victor Calderone, to Pacha Ibiza and the latest Old School Party featuring Common with Biz Markie and Jazzy Jeff.
Shine is the brainchild of Jon Cowan. Jon, whose family owns the hotel, has served as music director the hotel, and was part owner of Nerve. Jon also runs Bliss Productions, which has staged many large events at venues such as the legendary Groove Jet, Space and Crobar, while hosting events locally for world-class brands such as Cream, Renaissance and Ministry of Sound.
Returning to Shine in 2008 is Miguel Contrares, who is known as one of the forces behind the original opening of Shine. Miguel also managed Level, the Fifth, Mansion and is back handling Events and Food and Beverage for the Hotel and Club and Ballroom.

Club SHINE re-opens Saturday night September 19th with WAY OUT WEST SOUNDSYSTEM featuring DJ’s Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff. The two unique internationally acclaimed have collaborated under the banner of Way Out West for special projects every few years. 2009 their “We Love Machine” project releases and the tour which launched in Europe this summer is now in the United States for a few dates. Both Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff’s solo careers and tours continue to grow, and span 20 countries. Shine’s Jon Cowan, joins the group for an unstoppable evening. Cowan has just come back from a small European tour including Ibiza (Pacha) playing with Sander Kleinenberg.
