Hello, buddy. Welcome to the Shoe page. Below is an excellent bio, but here are the basics: A Brief History of Shoe. Formed somewhere around 2004, Shoe have been Shoe for about a year and a half. Blending a mix of Rock, Pop, Alternative and a splash of Funk, Shoe have evolved into an original and freshly-unique group of lads who do what they do almost as good as they should be able to. Live they deliver a raw, colourful and highly energetic show, giving their all no matter the circumstance. Recorded they capture the energy and action of the live show, while taking the songs up a notch vocally. Known for their original sound and unique live show, Shoe have become a local favourite for all ages across Tasmania. They have songs and don't mind a dance. Roughly formed in the year of 2004, the history of Shoe is best described with the words “dodgey at best.” Singer/guitarist/songwriter Bart Thomas, Bassist Jason “Budge” Wood and Drummer Jake McGovern slowly progressed from the stages of 'bad high school band' to 'bad college band' and eventually 'bad adult-age band.' Luckily they were able to drop the 'bad' somewhere along the way, without loosing their roots too much. Blending pop/rock and alternative, with splashes and funk, Shoe have forged a very unique sound, drawing from influences all over the shop from the Beatles and the Chili Peppers to many more less-than-respected groups.
The full history of the band is a long tale that frankly isn't that interesting at the current point in the band's career. However... Shoe began as a band called Better Than Steve, raging across Tasmania's young music scene with ridiculous gusto and daring originals ranging from quite bad to actually quite good. With a slight member change and a regrettable split, they became Follow by the Wayside. The band's sound evolved almost to it's current state with the band actually beginning to treat itself with some respect. With regular gigging and new and better songs all over the place, the mould was set for what was to be the next stage in the band's evolution, Shoe. Reuniting with the original bassist, Shoe were born amidst world-travel, street busking and the recording of their Self Titled EP recorded by Greg Stace (Something with Numbers, Kid Courageous) which landed them a signing with MGM Distribution through Tasmanian River City Records.
Live, Shoe deliver a raw, colourful and high energy performance and don't mind a dance if the mood takes them. Granting the kids aren't too scary, Shoe love giving the crowd their all no matter about the sometimes (all-the-times) meager audience of hometown Devonport's Nightlife. On CD, Shoe easily capture the energy and colour of the live show, as well as vocally taking the songs to another level. Songwriter Bart Thomas explores a large range of styles and exceeds at pumping out hook, riff and catchy tidbit.
Their latest release, a self titled 6-track EP, is currently being released internationally through MGM Distribution and online through iTunes and Waterfront Records. The EP has received Triple J airtime, as well as the video single “Egg” receiving plays on both Channel [v] and RAGE. The Track “Little Bird” off the EP scored a top 10 place in the 2009 Music Oz Awards, going up against huge Australian names including COG and Pinky Beecroft.
If someone were to quote on Shoe as a band, we like to think it would be all good stuff. But you can't win 'em all.
