Amber Nash and Jordan Neff first met at Cincinnati's Midpoint Music Festival 2008, where Jordan performed with Cincinnati-based Magnolia Mountain. The next night the roles were reversed, when Jordan attended a concert where Amber was playing solo at the local venue, Rohs Street Cafe. Since then, the two have been inseparable on and off stage, performing as Shiny and the Spoon, an eclectic, ukulele-centered, folk/pop duo. Jordan insists that he is the "Spoon", although Amber will tell you otherwise.
Shiny and the Spoon gives off the warmth and intimacy of the likes of Johnny Cash and June Carter, with a sense of humor -whether it be present in sardonic lyrics or door prizes- that creates a wonderfully fun live show. Their originals are soulful, clever, and laced with hints of Patsy Cline, Gram Parsons, Elvis Costello, and Tom Waits.
Shiny and the Spoon chooses surprising and sometimes obscure covers set to their own style.
The two have distinct backgrounds; Jordan is a veteran of music, fronting bands of his own creation and playing as a multi-instrumentalist in groups like the CEA-nominated Magnolia Mountain. Amber has made a name for herself at intimate venues around Cincinnati and across the internet on sites like Ukulele Cosmos, YouTube, and Ukelele Hunt.
The music created by these two has been subject to interviews with Ukulele Magazine, Ukulelehunt.com, and CincyGroove.com, featured in the German independant film Finding Frida and on blogs like accidentalcreative.com and Indyish.com. The two have performed with artists like Victoria Vox, The Bell and the Hammer, The Tillers, Craig Robertson, and The Seedy Seeds.
One of their YouTube videos, a cover of a-ha's "Take On Me," recently went viral on the internet, spiking up to over 40,000 views in a matter of days.
Shiny and the Spoon recently had the honor of performing at Cincinnati's Midpoint Music Fest 2009 and the 2009 BRINK New Music Showcase.
They are currently nominated for a Cincinnati Entertainment Award for New Artist of the Year.
Thank you for being a friend! If you have a chance come stop by my page and leave some feedback on my poetry, and keep checking back for new blogs, poems, and my first book of poetry which will be available for sale in just a few months!! Here's one of my poems:
IT'S JUST LOVE
As hard as I try, I can't seem to erase you from my mind. Search his eyes for a reflection of your heart. Imagination engulfing reality. His hands embrace me. I close my eyes and feel you. If only this distance weren't so prodigious. My heart longing only to be beside you. A love so inaccessible. Relying only on Faith. A love so unyielding. It will never surrender. Although I kiss you goodbye, My heart will never cease to be enraptured by you.

Hey, I meant to tell you guys last night that I love Canary in a Coalmine, and I also really like the song about leaving a city (what's that called?). Two of my favorites.
Can you please do an Australia tour? Come to the Sunshine Coast, Play through Brisbane, and venture down to the Gold Coast. Everyone does that circuit, and it's not hard to book.
i'm so sorry I couldn't make it. I was in a car accident. and I some lingering aches and pains to work out. I'm almost good as new. Can't wait for my next opportunity to share the stage with shiny and the spoon.
The show last night was AWESOME! I've been looking forward to it ever since I saw you guys playing at Megans house for the garden benefit. :) I've been sending all my friends to your youtube page... :) When does that EP come out? I've been on myspace a lot so I can listen to you guys, but I'd like to buy something from ya. :)
Thanks for taking the time to add me. I appreciate the support and love for what I'm doing. And so, with such gratitude I offer up a video which will hopefully make your day the best of the entire month, and with the information to make others just as good. Drew www.youtube.com/drewdanburry
