The Shirley Lites Bio
Shirley Lites started singing at the tender age of six. Much of her Experience was acquired from Sunday school. The Philadelphia Girls City choir, other city choirs and private sing lessons.
Shirley began singing with local bands at the age of seventeen. These Philadelphia based bands helped expand her musical knowledge, which in turn boosted Shirley to a professional level that landed her many background sessions in the studio working with such artists as Dexter Wansel, Billy Paul and other well known celebrities. Shirley has opened Norman Connors, The Funkadelics, Angela Bofill, Miles Jaye and many others.
Shirley has performed at numerous local venues such as the Academy of Music, Zanzibar Blue and others. She has turned on crowds at Studio 54, The Fun House and The Roseland in New York as well as clubs in Washington, Boston and Miami and Fort Lauderdale in Florida. Shirley has traveled extensively around the world sharing her gift of song.
Shirley’s number one Hit “Heat You Up, Melt You Down” has been re-released and is being played in clubs nationally and internationally. Classic electro-disco from 1983 with an unmistakeable bassline, & vocals from Ms.Lites. This is a fave of everyone from Larry Levan to Metro Area and was a huge influence on the early NY and chicago club scenes. B-side contains an ace dub mix!
Ms. Lites, whose vocal range and abilities set her miles apart from most of the vocalists recording today. Shirley is exceptionally gifted and talented. The smooth style “clean as a bell delivery” of lyrics have earned her praise and standing ovations wherever she has performed.
