Shiva Copal began in Red Bank, New Jersey, in the Fall of 2000, born from the ashes of prior heartbreaks and tragedies, i.e., former bands. The Hindu deity Shiva, while known as the destroyer, also represents change and the shedding of old habits. Copal is a resin largely used for preserving art. It is through Shiva Copal that the five individuals behind the band shed the past, forge on and hope to bring the great rocknroll heritage to the masses.
The individual band members are dedicated to writing the personal anthem: driving songs with a sense of melody, hooks and dynamics, telling personal stories very loudly or softly. Guitar lines slink and slide through a rhythmic thicket of bass and drums. The vocal melodies bob and weave through the chaos.
Since its beginnings, the band has meandered northward and settled in the New York City area. They have been gigging extensively in the Manhattan area and Northern New Jersey area, cultivating a loyal following and making new friends in the process.
