good folks, troublemakers, freedom fighters, truth tellers and truth seekers... people who are in the moment and get the party started right. also those who value communication over self-promotion.
"SHLSHKD began in 2003 with the original members of Don Cambria, John Coakley, Oraia Reid and Sam Rasiotis. The band was formed as a reaction to the oppressive regime of George W. Bush, and the political turmoil that America is involved in was always the driving force. Musical influences included hardcore legends like Minor Threat and Black Flag as well as sonic art rockers Mission of Burma and Sonic Youth. The band produced 3 recordings : "Let's Not Play War Again", "Shellshocked Vs. The Regime" and the full length "The Reins". The band toured extensively in its first 2 years playing shows in Seattle, Spokane, Portland, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Chicago, Madison, Youngstown, Jersey City, as well as many shows in their hometown of New York City. February of 2006 would see founding member Oraia Reid leave the band as she became dedicated to her various activist interests dealing with women's safety issues. Enter Smalak, a one of a kind bass playing phenomenon who joined the band for their final year of existence. During this time the band grew toward different directions. The songs became slower and longer, often with a more crushing effect, with influences like Isis and Drive Like Jehu coming to the forefront. Extensive touring gave way to extensive song writing, and the band mostly played shows in New York City. Recently, singer/guitarist Don Cambria decided to part ways with the band to move to New Orleans and the band had their final show on January 30th 2007. It was a festive affair that was a celebration rather than an occasion for mourning, and Don was given a fitting send off. The remaining members - John, Smalak, and Sam are already working on a new project that has yet to be named. Don Cambria is currently driving across the U.S. to his new home, New Orleans."
It features a Small Brown Bike retrospective, Akimbo, Brent Eyestone (Magic Bullet/Forensics), Will Killingsworth (Ampere/Orchid), Ryan Ferguson (No Knife) and much more.
