Uber Lingua DJs in June 2007 June went to the US-Mexico border taking up the invitation to play a series of shows in Tijuana - hometown of the Nortec
Collective. The Mexican crew opened the first Uber Lingua residency in
Sydney during 2005, and returned to give one of the highlight shows at last
year's Melbourne International Arts Festival, as well as once again playing
with Uber Lingua at St Jeromes. The sound of the Nortec Collective is the
sound of the First World in the Third and the Third World in the First.
This next visual mix was made from footage from the Tijuana trip.Big shout out to the Nortec Collective crew and all the others who made our stay there one to remember.
I then went on to travel through the U.S and Canada on the way i kept a detailed blog and made several films that were uploaded to youtube and are embedded in my blog.various events that i attended were filmed and hacked together into low fi films that have attracted a lot of views on youtube.
"One Night Of Fire" was a great Renegade Parade that met up on Brooklyn bridge on July 14th 07 that i was lucky enough to be part of on a sweltering hot New York City summer night.
The Finger Lakes Grassroots festival was an awesome weekender in upstate New York that occurred on the weekend of July 20th-22nd 07,the festival was a good mix of varied music and sustainable lifestyle and minimal security presence.
Then I made it up to Canada where I'm stayed with a friend Steve who used to be at the Mekanarky warehouse back in Sydney. The film i made here fchronicles the journey from having just turned up in Toronto to finding and getting to the Northtek teknival that night 300k North West of town on the 28th and 29th July 07.Big ups to the Sound Systems present some who had travelled from Montreal and upstate Quebec, more at http://www.free23.net/.
Still In Toronto I went with Steve to the finals of the Pillow Fight League at a local club and checked out the massive and very noisy Caribana festival in Toronto and my fave reggae singer Barrington Levy....

Mashy P creates music on Abelton live but also has joined up with various players like the well known didge player Charlie McMahone and the Mekanarky house band, elements of live jamming are sampled and remixed alongside synthesised and sampled beats sounds and voice samples.
Apart from promoting music and making beats.
What else do i do?

These lights are made from Perspex offcuts printed and stenciled with layers of images. Their themes vary from asian to olde world to street style. The printed Perspex pieces are held together with specially made wooden pillars courtesy of scratch built joiners at the Tortuga warehouse. www.myspace.com/tortugastudios
The boxes were shown at an exhibition called Cluster at 22 Enmore road in December 2006,since then about twenty display boxes have been made this year some of which you may have seen them at the Jollywood spaces at Peats Ridge and Regrowth Festival or at the Uber Lingua club nights the Sydney laneway festival and at the Abercrombie Hotel that ran for five months last summer.
Some have an older flavour enhanced with shellac and glazes others look like street walls covered in graffiti posters and stencils.
I also design quite a lot of flyers for events around sydney and have recently started producing limited edition runs of hand printed posters
Influences
My major influences are HipHop,Reggea,Grime,Baltimore Beats,Baille Funk,I love M.I.A,Tigara,Aussie acts Combat Wombat,Curse of Dialect, french act Djins, old school Reggea and dub as well as Gypsy beats and Arabic flavoured tracks.
My favorite radio show is Stuart Buccanan's Fat Planet show on Sydney's FBI radio and Geina and Lui Mitchells bassline show (FBI sun 5-7pm).(check www.fbi.com.au for more)
I recently have caught the stencil bug and have been producing various strands of design from dogs to political statements.I look forward to showing my stencil art at cultural centre in Tijuana part of Uber lingua tour that will take me to mexico in June 07.
(check out my stencils in my picture section)
I also have been involved in running screenprinting workshops, some at my sydney studio and some out at a community in Condobolin last year.
Sounds Like
I guess the mashy P sounds a bit like post techno dancehall, the skip dancehall double beat structure replacing the four on the floor, but there are many styles glitch reggae, grimy breaks and uplifting as well as dark electronic production.
Music is our media our collective riddim and regularly brings together a permaculture of folk in Sydney where I live and beyond.
I been involved in Sydney’s electronic underground since the early nineties, musically I have produced electronic music that has appeared on Clan Analogue, Organarchy, Earthcore and ZZZ compilations in the nineties.
Previously known as D.J Morphism I was part of the Vibe Tribe collective and the Ohms Not Bombs crew who pushed social justice issues and political activism within the party circuit in Sydney and beyond through to nineties and the new millennium.
These community events have been co-created by a bunch of people who felt that the autonomous zones that were made gave them something extra that the mainstream did not supply.
From mad squatted warehouse parties to environmental fundraisers and street parties like Reclaim the Streets and Renegade Parade such gigs give the people a feeling of belonging and established friendly network that lives on strong around Australia.
In 1998 Ohms not bombs a project I helped co-create, traveled around the desert putting on anti nuke free parties, sharing knowledge, stories and music, later linking up with other crews on the Earthdream convoy that gathered more urban local and international travelers at the end of the nineties and into the naughties.
Ohms Not Bombs has helped build bridges with indigenous Australia and come together on functions at the Canberra Aboriginal tent embassy as well as anti nuke actions in the desert.
For the last five years I have been involved with the Mekanarky arts collective.
Mekanarkys trademark recycledelic style has brought us aero plane cockpit D.Js booths, mad maxesque robots, great parties at the Ice Cream factory site in Turrella, Sydney and renegade Pirate ship sound systems on wheels. The collective is has currently been forced to relocate, memebrs of Mekanarky are setting up a new space in Sydney soon.
Recently hooking up with the Dog and Duck cafeI have been inspired by the rise of the massive free party in Sydney town, the vibe resembling the heyday of Vibe Tribe events ten years ago. The currently growing phenomenon of these free parties is party due to the lack of venues in this town, people have to make their own,. For these events people bring their own sound system zones to special locations, the gigs consequently have a special energy because they are created by many hands who share the work and bask collectively in the afterglow that they bring. Check out the film on my blog reporting on the Chanel 05 party last election night in November.
Over the last few years my interest in global electronic fusion styles has been catalyzed by a trip to the middle east in 2004 and his involvement with the Uber Lingua crew playing at gigs in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra and in June 07 at Tijuana (see embedded video on this page) Sydneys FBI radio has supported recent audio creations that fuse electro with dub grime and lo-fi and punk production.
