Bio
Shocked Elevator Family formed in Birmingham in 2001. Billed as The Monotones, the band played their first show in a school hall. However they soon decided to ditch the ‘sexy school boy’ image, and changed their name to Whitaker’s Almanac. .... Following the inclusion of Ralph Morton and David Morris in the line up, the band finally settled on Shocked Elevator Family and established themselves in Birmingham’s emerging “New Rock” collective, a scene that has since spawned, Gentle Friendly, Hell Brown Kids, Bleeding Judges, Sizlac and Filtron and The Brothers Garcia among others..... In 2004 S.E.F released their first E.P proper on Giant Manilow Records. The modest but favourable attention the record received gained them their first out of town shows, university radio exposure and inclusion on a split single and compilation album through Bearos Records..... The band moved into Johnny Foreigner’s lock up in mid 2007 to complete work on a new batch of songs. The resulting The Luge vol.1 was produced and mixed by Dom James (Sunset Cinema Club) at Hijack Studios in summer 2008. .... Since completing the record, David Morris has released the Night Tape E.P with Gentle Friendly and Bryn and Ralph have been working closely with Hell Brown Kids drummer Lloyd Bowen on a new project (Bryn Bowen &) the Shalfonts. Their ‘Sturt Logic’ was released through Giant Manilow Records in February 2009. .... While there are no plans to make a new S.E.F record, all four members have contributed to the upcoming Shalfonts album due for release summer 2010.
