About me: Shon Roka is a 30 year old Professional DJ and Break-dancer from Chicago, Illinois. His career began 18+ years ago spinning at local neighborhood bars and parties. From there he gained experience and met other DJs with whom he started a party crew call 2DH (2 Damn Hype). He has spun at private parties, special events, concerts, cafes, and breakdancing battles, all both local and out of town. Currently he provides beats for Chicago as a resident DJ at Tabu & Cats Meow, (former resident of Cozmo's, Lava Lounge) but randomly doing places like Funky Buddha, Lava Lounge, Sub-T’s, V.I.P. Hall, El Sitio, Artistic Jeanius, Tarbar, & El Patron and with his own remixed songs. He has spun at private parties, special events, concerts, cafes, and breakdancing battles, all both local and out of town. Currently he provides beats for Chicago for bar/club Cats Meow and at local youth centers around the Chicago land area. His latest project “Another Saturday“ has sold over 200 copies. Now he is working on his newest project “Notorious B.I.G. & Friends” mixtape. Hosted by Shon Roka himself. He has been very successful with creating and building such nights like “Back To Basics” with artist Prime. Back to Basics was an open mic night at a bar/club called Cozmo’s which lasted 6 months strong. It gave a place for local up and coming artist to shine and gain experience on stage. Featuring acts such as Pacifics, Jargon, M.I.C. Murdah, Ras Rok, Jitu, just to name a few.
Not only rapping went down but the Legendary Brickheadz (www.brickheadzdance.com) threw a DVD release party. The Hip Hop Project: 88.7 on your local radio every Saturday 7:30pm -11:30pm (www.thehiphopproject.com) also showcased DJ Eves, Monkey, and Cosm Roks. DJ Shon Roka and Prime also put together the event. Because of difficulty with Graffiti artist tagging up the place. They had to stop doing “Back To Basics”.
Back To Basics also got together all the artist who performed for those 6 months on one mixtape. Mixtape available upon request.
With working with Middle Ground, Jargon and now Brickheadz Entertainment he is now looking to establish himself more in the industry. I saw the Breakers at the bash in their seats watching the show. I couldn't say hi, cuz I had floor seating in front of stage with my two kids. It was to hard to get up where the Breakers were sitting. Here is a pic of Twista with the Breakers in the back ground..
