About me: SHOP is a vintage and retro clothing and homeware shop on the Christmas Steps in Bristol.
The inspiration for SHOP came in a round about kind of way, originally it was going to be a 24 hour cafe (still called SHOP), but more time was spent deciding on soft furnishings and colour schemes rather than the menu so SHOP became, SHOP the actual, well... shop!
SHOP does not have any regular suppliers, which is one of its strengths, as literally everything in the shop has been hand picked. Currently, SHOP has lots of friends and family all over the country who go to vintage fayres and bazaars and look out for special bits - and that suits SHOP perfectly. SHOP is not loyal to any specific era's, the only criteria is that it is vintage and fantastic.
Pricing fairly is very important to SHOP. SHOP believes it is very true that something is only worth as much as someone will pay for it and so the things which are SHOP's favourites might be priced higher than something which is much older and perhaps more valuable, but just not as nice.
Ladies tops start from £5-£15, dresses from £10-£35, men's tee's from £3. Homeware starts from as low as £1 and jewellery and accessories range from £2 for a pair earring to £10 for a vintage clutch. Vinyl from 50p and books from £1.
Most importantly, SHOP is a lifestyle - in fact lots of people say coming into SHOP is like stepping into someones lounge.
At the start of 2008 SHOP moved to a larger premises...next door to the old SHOP, we are now at 19 Christmas Steps. It still feels the same, it's just a little less like a lounge and more like a whole flat! Who knows by 2009 we may be more akin to a small bungalow.
Who I'd like to meet: More of SHOP's lovely customers! And the beloved SHOP Club members who take part in regular events like 'International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day' and get 10 per cent off all their purchases too. Cor, I wish I wasn't still trapped in this computer and I could join.....
